    FH020AA + New stator for 6th gen

I am about to install a new Honda Stator along with a Shindengen FH020AA Reg/Rec to my 6th gen and I was Just wondering If anybody has mounted the Reg/Rec in a different place from the factory mounting point

Now I realize the FH020aa runs cooler etc etc but surely shorter wires from stator to reg/rec not running between the motor "V" has to help with stator wire temps

I will be wiring straight to the battery as well from the reg/rec

I remember a post where somebody mounted theirs to a rear foot peg mount but can't remember who or find the post

I am most probably just over thinking this but as I have to make a mount for the reg/rec anyway as the spacing for the holes and mounting orientation are different why not do it differently and move it away from the radiator and into the airstream

Post pics of your install if you have done it differently

    Cheers

Grumps, I mounted mine just above the footpeg but mine is an 86 so the setup would be different. Also I welded a piece of plate in there to mount it on, probably not something you would want to do

    Cheers "Mello" for the pics

I nearly bought one of those brackets from you but it came to nearly $50 AUS including postage so I may duplicate it for my personal use if you have no objections

But I think I will tap a thread into the plate instead of the square holes for the bolts

Very poor now after buying a new stator from Honda Aus and a FH020 kit from roadster cycles along with de-linking the brakes and rebuilding the forks

Unfortunately, shipping to Australia ended up being $13.70 US.
    - I had thought about tapping the holes but then looking at it, there's not a lot of space in there for a fastener to come through, and the plate at .19 inch thick and aluminum material, I decided against it.

    Cheers

I managed to talk the Honda Stealer down to $310 Aus incl tax from $365 as they originally quoted

I could of got it from the States for $196 US but the shipping was $65 US on the slow boat so it would of actually been dearer from the States

The Reg/Rec Kit with all the bits from roadster cost me $214 Aus including shipping which was only 8 days on the slow boat
Yamaha want $308 Aus without the connectors :eek-new: And they don't have any in the country

I went to Red Wing Honda out here looking for a stator for my CB about 8 years ago, bloke is on the computer, looks over at me and says " they are dear, five hundred and..." I didn't let him finish, I just told him I could get one from the States for $125 and walked out and never went back. New stator arrived from the States in 8/10 days and is still working fine Postage was only a few dollars, some things from the States, shipping is good, but others are just bullshit

I believe that was CandyRedracer who mounted it to the foot peg, but I don' recall what post he put the pictures in. Maybe a PM to him.

Any photos of the way that you mounted the reg/rec to the foot peg bracket and or photos of the bracket you made /used would be very much appreciated

It just makes sense to have the reg/rec hanging out in the breeze with shorter wire lengths away from the radiator

I can figure out the wiring routing easy enough

    Cheers

And position it so that the air flows through the fins not across them, probably not that critical but if you are relocating it might as well do it right

I milled the back of the foot rest flat, so the rr would sit flush and just used the single hole that is already there for the luggage mount. Funny thing is, I spent so much time bullet proofing the charging set up and putting the rr out in the path of cool air flow, the fh020aa makes near zero heat.

Got two Mosfit r/r from Roadster Cycle, robust units. Have an OEM stator on my 91 I installed ten years ago. Newer 93 is good, soldered the three legs and eliminated the plug. Cheers...Whats Mick Doo-inN?

Holy crap that's an old post lol. I still had a motad header, a polished frame and wheels, factory shock, center stand and no quick shifter. Wow time flies, I can't believe I got all that stuff since putting on that RR/stator. Here's a few more.

FWIW I employed a used FH010 from Ebay and furakawa connectors....mounted in the stock location....back in 2010. It has delivered 5 issue free seasons. The mosfet runs cool, despite buried under bodywork.

I mounted my R/R to the left rear footpeg bracket too. Just held it in place and drilled a couple of holes to match. Pictures are here someplace. Look at my picture gallery and you'll find it.
