Stopped in a plaza to get a haircut and a young Japanese chap came out of a restaurant next door, and was fascinated with the bike. Said he was a MC mechanic in Japan and that he currently rides a CBR1000RR, but was fascinated by the VF750! While getting my haircut, we could see him going back several times to look at it and take pictures!

I think I've finished restoring my 5th gen back to pre-crash condition (minus a tiny dent in the tank). I fitted fairings supplied by Auctmarts in Hong Kong, added new stickers and I'm pretty happy with the result. [IMG][IMG]

Changed the oil and filter and gave it a good going over. Plugged in the tender and threw on a cover because it looks like bad weather isn't far off.

Some may wonder why I did all of this. Part of it is "because I can" (I have the tinkering affliction) but mainly it is because I have become used to the much superior front brake power on my VTR, which has CBR954 master and calipers and is very well braked. I also have a dislike for the complicated cats-cradle of hoses, secondary MC and delay valves that the standard LBS system has, and can't help wondering about the effect of all that extra unsprung weight on the front end.

I'm looking forward to getting the VFR back on the road and testing the new arrangement![/QUOTE]

I'm with you on this one. I'm still doing the fruggle search here and there, it will happen sooner than later. At the moment I've found a complete sp1 front so??? but had it to do a F41 swap still more ??? in the diff. all is good great job there Cadbury

I sent them a chunk of my old fairing to do a colour match on, and I think they did a great job. Under certain light there is a slight suggestion that the new bits are more orange but some of that is due to fade on the old parts. The paint quality is excellent, the fit was pretty good.

I've had a short ride, first impressions are that the front end feels lighter (probably my imagination) and the brakes have lots more power but felt a little wooden. I did de-glaze the discs and the pads, but there was a bit of a shudder on first application which seems to be easing. Last night I pulled the master apart and gave that a good clean-up and lube, and I have got some EBC HH pads on order. I had a bit of shudder with my old brakes so I know some of this is coming from the discs. I have basically the same brake set-up on my VTR and that is VERY good so I know I'll end up with a good outcome.

The back brake is also a little problematic and although I feel like I've pumped litres of fluid through the lines, I suspect I still have some air as the pedal feel is spongy and there isn't a whole lot of power. Good thing that I enjoy tinkering!

Finally found my Bad Boy air horn and Genmar risers had in storage. Installation to occur soon after doing the family thing today for Turkey Day.

In what spare time I've had today since I read your bit on the up grade, I've looked in this VTR fork leg swap plus brakes, very interesting, found a set on ebay for quite a bit less than the RC51 complete set up, then add it's way simpler, but what's the deal with the fender fit? So now I'm rethinking my tinkering. Thanks Cadbury, I too like tinkering.

The fender mount on the VTR lower sits further from the outside of the leg by about 23mm, and the mounting holes are also closer together at 90mm vs 121 on the VFR. I bodged up a pair of brackets from 50x25 aluminium and can send my measurements if you want them. You need a hacksaw, angle grinder, file and drill plus patience, and a tap and die set.

To fit CBR/SP1 or 2 calipers to VTR legs you need to file a bit off the lower mount on the leg, 5 minutes work. Then you need washers to pack the calipers 3mm off the mounts to line up nicely on the discs.

    The end result:

I repurposed some of the many brake hose brackets off the VFR system to tidy up the hoses.

Sweet, thanks, so you use your VFR wheel and discs, good to know that little extra. I can only imagine how one finds that out later. I'll keep in touch in how it goes, I see I need to go searching first for whats out there. Looking good there

Yes apart from the calipers, lower forks and the fender brackets, everything else (wheel/axle/discs/upper fork leg) can stay VFR. I have got VTR fork internals for the rebound adjusters. The assembled VTR lowers/VFR uppers/VTR fork caps ended up 5mm longer overall than the stock VFR fork. You can happily mix and match the fork seals and bushings, they're identical.

You can't use a VTR wheel/axle with VFR triples because the fork spacing side to side is narrower on the VTR than the VFR.

You could use the VTR brakes (and not modify the lowers) but having used them on my VTR I wasn't a big fan; I think the mechanical ratio between master and caliper, and the caliper bore size, is not Nissin's finest work. The CBR954 set-up is great.

mate, it looks beautiful. the wheels look great in silver? i've been toying with changing the colour of the wheels on my yellow one but have crossed out more colours such as gold, copper as too blingy and leaning towards sticking with original black. but the silver has caught my eye!
