This afternoon, I layed down one of my VFRs. It was my 1987 VFR700 with 55,000 miles on it. I hit a little bit of gravel going aproximately 20mph and the front wheel washed out. Fortunately the damage seems to be merely cosmetic.

Tomorrow, I will be ordering a new front and right lower fairing, but they come in plain white and I'm wondering if any of you know the paint code so I can have them painted to match. My bike is dark blue (see the photo).

    Thanks in advance!

Airtech products are great. They are "fiberglass" and require further fitting.

Impossible to say without at least a pic or two of the actual damage to your fairing. Unless the damage is really severe, consider repair of same.

Repainting will require a complete paint job to match.

Best bet: Buy or borrow from your public library a current book on repair and painting on cars and bikes. If you are not handy, this will give you a head start on getting the work done by someone else.

    Thanks for the advice.

It appears upon further inspection that I'll be able to salvage the right lower fairing. The turn signal however was pushed clean through the front fairing leaving a large whole... I will for sure need a new one.

The other fairings on the bike are fine, so other than $$ there shouldn't be any reason why I couldn't repaint them too right?

Unless you really need or want to have your bike look stock, take a look at two new turn signals from another source. Hopefully you salvaged the bits from the laydown to at least give you enough "meat" to install the right side turn signal. Repairs even when chunks are missing can be done with almost any ABS plastic. This includes parts of car bumpers, fenders ect.

For paintwork, shop around. Car painters will sometimes take you on. Sometimes not. Avoid DIY backyard and garage painters. The paint is toxic and those places are dirty and it will be in the finish.

Get a book. The more you know about how-to will get you to the right questions to ask and to cut the BS from those who will tell you what you want to hear..

I know on the 6th gen, the paint colour code is on a sticker beneath the seat. I wonder if there is a similar sticker on your gen. Google may help you find that. I don't come close to having spray painting talents so when mine was done, I let the pros do mine. Need to take a hard bag in cause I created a couple deep long scrapes just yesterday backing the bike past my table saw. Tabernak!

Great site..Some of the pages are dated. I suggest the OP think about a total repaint after repairing the plastic parts. The specialty colors used by Honda and others requiring undercoats and topcoats to complete the effect will increase the price of the materials greatly. Add this to the required filler/primers and various reducers, retarders ect., and the price goes up.

Unless "stock" has to be, check out any source for automotive paint and take a look at the thousands of colors available on cars and bikes dating back 50 years and more. For super fancy, House of Kolor.. They got stuff that's a couple of thou pesos for a gallon..

The "better" paint and body shops, ie the outfits that do real custom work, have what are called mix stations. They can, within parameters mix and formulate colors in quantities enough to day paint a bike.

A trick to save some pesos is if available use NC lacquer or acrylic lacquer for the color coat (s) and topcoat with one of the two component automotive clearcoats. Lacquers can also be done in high gloss by polishing and rubbing out.

I went to SpaceAge paints in Mesa with the color codes for my '07 red. They made up a couple of paint cans for $50 and it did not match. Much darker than what is on my bike. Very odd.

Your bike paint has faded. Reds are infamous for this. Reds and certain blues and greens are famous for this. The tech term is "fugitive" The reds and blues and greens are also transparent. For coverage, even the undercoating color or hue must be chosen carefully.

IMO this store did what you asked and I think you got rattlecans. Automotive paints today are two component. There are some exceptions. Some will dry and cure in normal ambient temps and moisture levels but do not have the wearability or permanence of catalyzed versions.

I bet they can direct you to a local painter who can fix what needs fixing on your bike..

I'd have more fun in that paint store you have there than a dentist with a fat wallet in a Harley store..;)
