I got a pipercross airfilter for my fifth gen, Upon recieving it and trying to fit it into the airbox I've discovered its the same shape of the airbox but the rubber edge is very slightly too thick in places and the whole filter can't completely seat into the airbox. I've read on other forums that they recommend just center it as best as they can and screw the airbox lid down onto it. Anyone have any experience with these?

Well. I guess, so long as there is a tight seal, everything else fits, and there is no air bypassing the filter, then go for it. But you bought something that is supposed to fit your bike and it does not. I would be taking it back. MHOFWIW.

As far as filtration goes, maybe they are the best. I just don't know J but if they are being sold to fit our bikes, and they have a documented problem, why not fiddle fart with that mold a bit and make a proper fit?

Although I don't have the piper cross, I do know that the K&N filters actually require that you remove the o-rings of the air box lid. There is a lip on the filter edge an that fits inside the area where the o-rings used to sit. If you need a picture of what I'm talking about, I think I might have one somewhere, otherwise I can probably take one sometime tomorrow.

I did shape the rubber a little bit using a blade. Got it to fit snuggly. Have noticed a difference in throttle response and power in upper rpms seems to be a bit smoother as well. I got this for 25$ shipped new from a shop on ebay. Definitely better then the pos chinese filter I accidently ordered which I thought was oem and was refunded on.
