On Monday, 2nd of Nov. I am going to look at 2 VFRs, the first is a '91 with a rebuilt title, claimed low miles at (12,000) not much other information at this point.

The second bike is a '98 with 30,000 miles, low speed drop on the left side, claimed fairing scrapes, fall over on right side-dented tank, clear title.

What should I look out for in these 2 different bikes? Similar pricing on both, low 2k.

I live in Vancouver Canada and have a wonderful series of roads to enjoy on a VFR.

    Regards

    Terry

Pretty much what ^ he said. meh.. Maybe the 98, thats alot of scuffs there. engine wise it's a small notch better, maybe. but if the 91 is straight, that's great one. You get that one and I'll exchange the rear wheel with mine ;) Rebuilt titles on these doesn't mean a lot, all it has to do is fall over. More a case of how it's been treated, it's just a motorcycle so the same rules apply when looking at a vfr. just that vfr engines are pretty much bullet proof, it's the rest you need to look over.

I would go with the 98. It has a gear driven cam and a very distinctive howl to it. That doesn't really do much for me, but those who have them, love them. Also, the 91 may be fine, but there appears to be too many unknowns about it. Is it a write off rebuild? Was it a recovered stolen and stripped bike? Too much to worry about in my books.

The 30,000 miles is nothing. Mine has 195,000 + km and is running strong. It's an 06. Does it rain much in Vancouver?

Keep us in the loop what you decide and for gawds sake, post fooken pictured when you do get it!

Just joined VFR world tonight and happened to click on this thread. Curious, did you see the two on Craigslist? I'm in the Fraservalley. You can always do the ICBC $20 VIN history check if your unsure of how much of a rebuilt it is. I also have noticed that the Vfr's around tend to be over priced. Be patient I think. Either way definitely a nice ride. Best of luck!

There ya go. Did not know that. I thought it was just the fifth gens that were. Still, I personally would be apprehensive about the first one.

Heh don't feel so bad. They'll all get there too one day! We all do! The main thing is can we still ride a two wheeler?
I'm new to the vfrworld. Are there many others from the Fraservalley?

Thanks for the advice guys, it gives me a little more confidence when looking.

When testing the charging voltage, where can I place the meter contacts without getting too far into the fairing? Can the seat be raised while running to access the battery?

    Cheers from North Vancouver

    rjti,

    Thanks for the good info.

Speaking of seats, I am a member of the 5 foot eight and under club (30 inch inseam) Napoleon was a charter member. Is there a preferred lower seat option for the VFR?

I wouldn't buy either one. The first sounds like the canadian equivalent of a salvage title, which I would never buy unless I wanted a project bike (and never for 2 grand). The second one sounds abused. There are tons of clean, used VFRs out there. Sure, they might be a tiny bit more than what you're talking, but my advice is save another thousand bucks and get a bike that you'll be able to ride another 100k miles with little to no problem. Both of those sounds like potential headaches to me, though of course it's impossible to say without having a pro check them out (and even then they might miss something).
