    Hello all
I'm a proud VFRvtec owner, my ride being a 2009 in silver with gold wheels. I do much riding, and I commute long distance (600 km) every 5 weeks or so. Got panniers and load my luggage and ride!

I've done a little over 28000km (about 17000 miles for the non-metricians) over the list 18 months. Much of this is long distance and a lot of traffic riding in Johannesburg .

Were fortunate that lane splitting is allowed here but when on a bike in Africa you have to anticipate that every driver is drunk and all bikers are invisible.

I fell in love with the VFR about 20 years ago when I got my first VFR, a little NC30. I loved the telepathic response that the bike had in terms of input and looking at the design and SSA had other effects on my anatomy. Beauty incarnate :). The bike that is......

Welcome aboard, post pictures when you get a chance as a few here will give you grief. Guess traffic is bad all over, assuming your invisible and everyone is out to get you is good for your soul. Depends how bad the traffic jam is and if I am gona stand the chance of getting a sigh-ta-shon or if I can get away from such authority :loco: if I split cars/trucks etc...Cheers Happy safe motoring...

Thought you call it "filtering" not "lane-splitting"

Welcome aboard Dean, I lived in Benoni just outside Jo'Burg back in my early childhood, wasn't old enough to drive/ride. I have since been back and driven, and your right about either being drunk or oblivious to bikers. Would love to go back and do the Sunday breakfast run to Haartbespoort Dam.

Pictures of your bike please, and good luck on Saturday against the All Blacks, NZ

    Kim

Goes by both names. Generally I try to keep the speed differential down to 20-25km/h. And I've done this in pouring thundershowers, 5pm traffic with hazards on (emergency indicators). Definitely a bum-clincher :)

I've just posted some pics of a track day I did earlier this year at Roy Hesketh in PMB. Last month I did a track day at the Dezzi raceway in Port Shepstone, and man is that a tight track. Along with square tyres, hauling the VFR around the turns was a good workout. I've done the Hartbeespoort run a few times, but generally the guys there ride too fast on the road. They will never be able to brake within the limit of sight. And I've seen some bad cornering, on/off throttle and braking mid-corner pushing them wide.

Welcome to The World Dean! Here in California we also get to lane spit and couldn't agree with you more, a lot of drivers here seem to think it's a contest on who gets to their destination first and will often make it their job to prevent you from passing them! Although I will say on most of my commutes I found more often than not drivers have been pretty friendly about it. Only a few times this year had I had a couple of drivers feel my advantage of being on two wheels was unfair to them and thought if they were stuck in traffic, then should I be too! We also have the occasional "squid" be a little too aggressive with their splitting making us all look bad and more often than not, they unfortunately usually end up a sample of Darwinism.

    Cheers!

    Welcome Dean.

Hope your rugby team has improved since they met the mighty Japanese! (I can't believe I'm talking rugby...I had a rugby bypass at early age).

Welcome fellow Commonwealther. Or has SA abandoned ship? We like to see a sample posted on your intro but your profile will work too.

I hear you about the image. Hence the above.

Yeah, the SA rugby team have improved vastly since the horrible Japanese defeat. Is it appropriate to mention Pearl Harbour?
