Still working with the stiff rear brake. Pulled the caliper and cleaned it and replaced all the fluid and bled the entire system as per the manual ( thanks to OOTV) The brake works but not great, Is this just the system? It moves about and inch and will slow the bike, but not anything like the front brake. The book says to check you should push on the left front caliper and that should stop the rear wheel. It does but with a little effort you can still turn the rear wheel. I bled all the calipers and the PCV under the seat just like the book says. When you push the bike and hit the rear pedal the nose dips a bit. Any thoughts appreciated.
Please clarify your statement about cleaning the caliper. Did you pull it apart and examine the seals and pistons? An intact seal can be cleaned with solvent as long as there is no tear whatsoever. Any nick in it, replace it. A piston with any sort of nick must be replaced.
The rear brake will never have the stopping of the front brake. That said, it should have more stopping power than you're indicating. We need a frame of reference here, though.
hanks for the responses, the one seal had a minor tear about 1/16 in the flap portion of the seal, but not leaking. If i push on the rear brake pedal I cannot physically move the wheel with my hand. If I push on the left front caliper the rear wheel will stop is its is being moved, but I can force the to move with my hand with the bike on the center stand. I am going to replace the seals, but there is not leakage and Ive bled all the calipers and the PCV under the seat as per the book. I guess I just dont know how the pedal is supposed to feel, but it is unlike any other bike I have ever had. No marks what so ever in the pistons and the fluid was the color of honey, not like burnt coffee, but I replaced it all. Thoughts?
