Is the Honda Common Service Manual cumulative or specific to certain years of bikes?

Is book 61CM002 applicable to 5th gen bikes or is 61CM001 the only book to cover that range of years?

I have the service manual. Also, I have a problem with reading on the screen. I tried it but it drives me criminally insane. I must have paper. I am addicted to books, since I could first read, and I always will be addicted.

The answer to your question is because the common manual contains more knowledge about Honda's systems. It is the knowledge that I seek.

The common manual posted (I found 1 there?) is from 1988, before my bike was built.

Thank you for the good intent. We can all agree that free is nice.

I have the Common Service Manual in book form. Not sure if it covers specific years or is cumulative collection of years up to the print date. The version I have is the 61CM002 and it was printed in 2004, so if it's cumulative, then it should have 5 Gen info. If this means anything at all, on the subject of lubrication, they have a diagram of what appears to be a 5 Gen engine, showing the cam drive gears and all. Hope this helps.

Note, for official Honda Service Manuals and Owners manuals, go to: www.helminc.com These are for sure the real deal. Yes, you can also find stuff on eBay but I had a "questionable" version arrive on my door step once. i.e. Photocopy of the manual!

Thanks. I was hoping page 1 would tell you explicitly what it applies to. However, your observation is enough for me to take a chance and get the 002 book. If anything it probably has some updates and corrections.

I called Helm because of a poor search result on the site. Can you believe they have only book 00 (I think 1988) at $50?

Thanks for reminding me about the frauds. I will see if I can get one from a valid US motorsports dealer and I should be good. I got a brand new manual, a decent copy of the dealer setup instructions, and a good service manual (with the obligatory grease marks). So luck is with me so far.

The book they have is 61CSM00. Notice the difference before the 00, CSM instead of CM? I had it, but loaned it to someone and never got it back, but I feel certain it was way newer than 1988. Pretty sure it is the current one.

It is interesting to read and learn to a certain extent, but the model-specific book is way more useful. I just picked it up one time while I was waiting for my specific one to be published.

One other note: Some of the books, even from Helm, are photocopies. Not this one...but some of the descriptions clearly state it.

I should have asked you about this first. Click on "Models and Years Covered". It shows this:

    Models and Years Covered
    EZ90: 1983
    MB5: 1984

However, you are right, and the dates here are wrong, probably remnants of an old product, left there because someone was templating the product pages and does not pay attention to their job. I found 61CSM00 elsewhere and they show a 2012 publication date.

Are you Honda Certified or a subscriber to Helm? I think I cannot order from them directly. This item does not appear if I select the owner link. The guy on the phone asked if I was a dealer so I get the impression if I tried to order it they would not sell me the Common Manual.

I have the FSM in my hand now, a good copy with a black greased edge. Awesome.

Back in the 90's I loaned my physics binder to another student who was going to take the course next. All of my tests and homework, all of the answers written out. One of the best study guides I ever built and intended to keep. I never saw him again. It is astounding how much of this population sees no problem with stealing. That's what it is: STEALING.

For some reason it doesn't show up in the list. Just pull up your bike, or any bike, click, and when all the publications are listed a picture of it will be in the right margin...

Oops, just realized you obviously found the book...too big of a rush. Not sure why you can't order. No, I'm just an average Joe--no Honda account--and was when I bought mine.

Macscuddle, while I had found it via googling, I never saw that the common manual shows up way over on the right of the web page. LOL. Right there all along. They should put it at the top of all the search results.

Both of you are correct. I went through part of the checkout procedure, it then asks if I am a retail customer or dealer and allowed me to get to the payment screen. I only assumed it would not allow that. Should have asked the smart people first.

I sent a request to cancel my ebay order for the 2004 book. If they have not shipped, I'll get this new one.

Oh sweet, they have a 7-ring Honda binder that (it appears) both books will fit in? Awesome.

    Thanks all!
