Trying to install a center stand I purchased used from eBay but just need a little help. I looked through the service manual but didn't see a detailed pic of the center stand. The bolts and washers came taped (pre-assembled) to the center stand, so I had assumed everything was in the proper place. When I started lining things up, it was apparent there was more to the story. On the left (swingarm side) there was a spacer, which seems to need to be on the right because there's quite a gap on that side. Here are a couple of pics... Do I just need to put the spacer on the right and all is good? I realize this may seem simple to most, but if I don't know what I'm doing, and I didn't take it apart, I need assurance I'm doing things right. Especially since this could scrape the ground if not done correctly. Thanks in advance! Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
There may also be more to the install than you think. I was actually planning on removing my center stand on my '01 and the right side bolt cannot be removed unless the header is removed. Yes, you can probably cut the bolt off to remove it but I don't see how you can put the bolt on unless the headers are removed. As far as spacers, washers or other bits, take a look at the parts fiche at one of the online parts resellers, that should give you an idea of what may be missing and where it should go.
Thanks for the reply and info. I realized that the install wouldn't be as simple as I had originally thought, once I saw a post or two on the forum. They were also referring to the header being in the way on the right side. My plan is to purchase a longer bolt and nut for the right side and insert bolt from the center ( once I figure out the other issue ) I'll try to look online. That's exactly what I needed. I just got another 40mm bolt for the right side and will insert it from the center of the bike and fasten with a nut on the far right. BTW the spacer is for the left side (which I found out via partsfish) Thanks again! Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
