Hello all, I just registered to this site as I am looking at buying a 2007 Honda Interceptor 25th anniversary edition this evening. It's a good price for the year and mileage. Is there anything I should be looking for on this as a potential sale killer? I'm talking about model specific issues and not the typical stuff to look at when buying a motorcycle. This will be my 4th Honda and I've not hesitated to purchase any of the other bikes, they all turned out to be bullet proof. Any thoughts?

Hi and welcome to the MadHouse:welcome:!

If the price is right then go for it. The 2006+ 800 VFRs are pretty well sorted machines. The main known problem is charging system gremlins. If you look through posts on here for just a few weeks, you will see electrical issues keep coming up time and again. Pretty much the same charging equipment and issues do however appear in other Honda bikes and indeed other makes of motorbikes so it is definitely something worth reading up on. If you go with the 6th Gen VFR then its well worth fitting a cheapo eBay volt-meter, which will at least allow you to spot trouble brewing and potentially avoid you being left stranded with a totally dead battery.

Let us know how you get on.

Cool - but as you are also new here - don't forget to swing by the introductions section of the forum and say Hi to the rest of the folks on here - and remember to include at least one photo of your new VFR - or it won't be long before people will be raggin on you.

    Take care

So I went ahead and bought the bike. Thanks SkiMad for your input. Truth is it's hard to go wrong with a Honda.

I've had 2 07s and this was never a issue for me. Maybe it's because I put a ton on miles on them (25k & 33k) with my daily commute.

I'm a bit confused. Why do you refer to 2007 as the 25th anniversary?

The 50th anniversary of the Honda Company was 1998. Socihiro Honda formed his company in 1948.

I have one of the limited edition of Honda UK special edition VFR800 bikes which I bought new on the 1st of September 1998 (I upgraded from my 1996 VFR750).

Oh, I see. It's the anniversary of the bike nit the company.

My bike was the 50th anniversary of the Honda Motorcycle Company, not just that of the 25th birthday of the model of bike.

Yeah they like to commemorate anniversaries at Honda. My friend has the 30th anniversary Goldwing. Never heard of the 50th but then I learn something new every day. Either way Im not regretting my purchase.

It's potentially a big mistake not to bring a VOLTMETER when considering any VFR purchase. If you don't verify that the bitch is charging the battery, you're looking at additional, unquantified expense.
