    Hello everyone,

Im new to this forum and to the bike. Just bought a 2005 VFR ABS with 17,000 kms on the clock a month ago. Have about 22,000 kms on the bike now.

I had an issue with a defective K&N oil filter which was leaking and I just replaced it with an OEM filter a couple of days ago.

When riding yesterday (approx a 60 k trip) I noticed a strong intermittent 'chatter' in the bikes front end when using the rear brake only and at very low speeds (stop and go traffic).

I cleaned the pads and rotors but the problem was still there. Its difficult to say if it got better or worse after the cleaning as the problem is only intermittent.

Not sure if this is an issue with the linked brakes or if the pads need changing (there is still alot of material on them).

I read a few threads about this but didnt see any conclusions.

    Thoughts? Similar experiences?

    Thanks!
    Paul

I believe this is the left caliper doing this. The rear brake pedal triggers the center piston of this caliper and my take is that since it is putting pressure in the center of the pad, it allows the pad to "vibrate" as there is not equal pressure along the whole pad. I have had this happen a few times but just squeezing the front brake lever slightly quiets the chatter, hence my theory of unequal pressure being the cause. About the only time I only use the rear brake without using the front brake lever is when I'm lane splitting, otherwise my primary braking comes from using the front brake. To me it's a non issue. YMMV

ive been getting the same thing actually. i will chatter continuously if i hit it just right sometimes while going down hill w/ just rear brake. So i also chocked it up to the linked brakes. Ive meant to bleed the system again just to make sure i have that front master cylinder right, but havent got there yet. I did change my rear brake pads, but didnt help at all.
