Hello everyone, just bought an 02 interceptor, the previous owner gave me the rear cowl as well, I don't have the owners manuals, how do I install that?
I tried taking the seat off turned upside down and little by little pull it in, but is very tight, I am afraid of breaking the plastics on each side,
Does anyone has a video that walks you through?

    Greatly appreciated!!!

Andir, are you sure first of all if it's the stock seat?

They do fit very tight at the tabs, especially if you are putting one over a Sargent seat.

Two plastic post on the bottom of the seat, slide cowl on slowly and insert the two tabs with holes that are on the cowl, plus there's one at the very rear.

Take the seat off and slide the cowl on from the back to the front. It should slide on. Remove the bolts before you slide it on, then bolt down.

Are you sure that's the stock cowl or not the wrong one? My 2002 cowl has a black rubber piece around the edge.

    Thank you for the reply,
To tell you the truth I don't know if is the original one, the gentleman sold the bike to me was the first owner, this one does not have a rubber on edges, does not seem to cooperate to get in,
    Regards!!!

Are you trying to put that cowl on while the seat is still on the bike. If so, yup, you are going to have problems and likely to break the cowl. Like mentioned here before, you need to remove the seat from the bike and slide the cowl on over the back of the seat and push it forward until the two tabs on the sides of the cowl, go over the pins on the underside of the seat and clip in. There is a tab on the rear of the seat as well and it slides over the pin at the rear underside of the seat.

I am not sure what bolts that Motoman is referring to. There are no such thing on my 06 which should be identical to your 02. But that aside, you don't want to put that cowl on your seat unless that black rubber trim piece is on the cowl. If not, the edge will cut into your seat really fast and then you have a mess on your hands. I will try to do a video later today if you wish. Otherwise I will leave this to you.

Heads up that its worth getting the rubber strip on the front edge of it... my bike was repainted by the PO, and he installed the cowl without the rubber strip - this caused it to sit just slightly lower, and the leading edges actually damaged the tail fairing paint as they made contact with it. He then bought the rubber strip from the dealer and this gave it the clearance needed not to rub the fairing.

Why bother if you're having this much trouble with it? Seat cowls are just useless ornaments, and that one is going to damage your seat if you can even make it fit.

No Randy, I took the seat off, turn it upside down and try to slide it slowly but mine does not have the rubber and I'm not sure why is so tight looks like impossible to get it in,

Your right! I forgot I have a Corbin seat, not stock. I have a bolt going in through the front tab.

Yup. Those tabs do break. One of mine just did as I was removing it to do a video for you to show you how easy it was to put the cowl back on. Fawk!

Well, I guess over time the plastics do get brittle in the weather and constant on and off of the cowl. Mine has been exposed to the extreme weather conditions since I got it in 06 so I suspect it was about to break off anyways. But they do go on and off easily sliding it in from the back of the seat rear to front and not to pry those tabs outwards an to try to slide it over the seat from above.

This is that rubber beading we had mentioned. I would not even try that cowl on without it on the cowl. You would be tempted to ride it that way and never get it fixed. Hell, they are cheap. It is item ! on this exploded view. There are two foam rubber pads at the rear end of the cowl (item #2) that is supposed to keep the seat cowl from rubbing on the surface of the rear cowl. That quickly wears through the paint exposing an ugly black mark. Those foam rubber pads do not last very long at all. I replaced mine with simple felt furniture stick on pads cut so that they do not show when the seat cowl is on. Cheap, yet so much more effective than the OEM rubber pads.

Now....to try fixing my broken tab. Not expecting much luck with that so I may have to spend some of my scarce pension money on item #8.
