Anyone ever experience a knocking noise at the first startup? If sitting for a couple hours, my bike knocks for a few seconds when first started, then goes away. Possibly cct's? Its almost kind of a snapping type sound. I know the previous owner ran synthetic oil for a time, then switched back to conventional oil. Don't get me started on synthetic oil - been through this "back and forth" deal with a previous car, and it caused all kinds of issues (including burning oil afterwards.)

My '07 maks a slight snapping noise when cold, but I believe it is where the stainless exhaust pipes are so thin a little exhaust noise comes through. If it were a car, I'd say it sounds like a slight exhaust leak. I don't have a leak, is just sounds a little like that. I don't know any other way to describe it. Hope this helps.

royce - I've never had that on my bike, but when it happens in my car I often find the oil is low. Where's the oil level?

found out it goes away with clutch lever applied. Must be a clutch related noise. I feel much better after this discovery - seems to be fairly common with these bikes to have a basket noise.

Same here on my ´07, it is kind of like a scraping sound coming from the clutch basket.
I thought that I would mention it to the dealer when I do the first 1000 km service. But perhaps everything is in order then?
