My first Mac lasted nearly a decade before obsolete software forced an upgrade. The imac I'm currently using is a mid 07 model & is doing just fine. The last time I did a major OS update I had 0, zip, nada, none, software or hardware compatibility issues what so ever. The Mac OS operating system isn't as simple or efficient as it used to be back in the 90's. But still better than anything that says Windows IMO. The only real complaint I have is their newer computers don't have built in CD drives.

Microsoft today did change its direction a little... They now tell you what the updates are they install due to the massive pressure they are getting from their enterprise clients. That being said, there are no fixes to any of the review systems.

When you open "Windows Explorer" there are immediately 4 network connections open to microsoft servers, this is the program that lets you see your files on your local hard drive, these connections are part of the file review system, paying attention to which files you open. It uses this to figure out the importance of the files to you and how often they load. If they are images they are being analyzed for legality and other issues.

Those components cannot be disabled, and unless you run Windows 10 Pro you cannot disable other things like the Forced updates.

I skipped 8 so it was an upgrade from 7, so I'm stuck with this monster.

I just deleted link couple days ago or else would list it but there was instructions on how to uninstall Windows 10 and go back to Windows 7. Do a Google search and see if you can find something. Now, I am assuming you have the recover disk for Windows 7. Needing that is probably a given.

From what I am gathering the general consensus is that Win10 becoming a very large problem for MS.. Maybe time to drag Gates kicking and screaming from retirement and put the guy back in the drivers seat.

Very timely discussion. I'm still running W7 pro on my laptop and it's working fine. Have had the "Get Windows 10" flag sitting on my menu bar for months, and after reading about the W 10 release, I tried to open the link to see where I stood. After waiting 10 minutes to connect to something, I gave up in disgust. That was a message. I usually don't jump on new releases, including Apple's, because of the rush-to-market bugs. Usually read the user forums for a while to see what progress is being made and get a feel for overall acceptance. Thanks to pzprider for his comments on privacy. Outrageous, but no surprise. All these user "agreements" are totally one-sided. They used to be called contracts of adhesion, but now it's take it or leave it for consumers and clients.

Drilling down on this particular subject might cause one to think there is some value in not believing that a lot of shit that is advertised as free, ain't.

Sorry Randy, but MACs get viruses as well now. I went to Win10 on my laptop, left desktop alone. I like it better than 8.1 by far. Good to know that I'm not the only computer geek on here. The tracking can be minimal if you be careful, and make sure to run virus scans and malware (malwarebytes) as mentioned above. Usually good to run it once In a while anyway. Just to keep things running smoothly. Also CCleaner, available at download.com. Cleans the registry, history, fully uninstalls apps that you no longer use.

Kudos for CCleaner. Free version is great (for a change) and the pro version cleans as good as a high colonic and a couple of CCs of ipecac.

    Hi Badbilly,

Use MalwareBytes.org's Malware Scanner as well (free) it is amazing in finding things most other software misses.

And yeah... you are right what is advertised as free isn't necessarily free...

Oh and Marc, on Windows 7 Microsoft sneaked Windows 10 in as an update so you need to go to Windows update find it in the list then right mouse click on it and say "hide update" this way it doesn't just automatically upgrade you. You can still reserve it (and when they have finally listened and released their first SP1 update then).

Thanks.. I'll give it a shot. If it's even close to how good CCleaner is I will be a happy camper.

I did Sportbike West in your town six times (and lived) The development from that is Sportbike Northwest.

SBW was a sometimes 300 mile poker run for sportbikes. Sportbike NW is toned down some.. SBW ended when RCMP shut it down. It was rowdy..

Using Win 10, no problems. Not exactly worried about Microsoft seeing that I spend a lot of time on VFRWorld/VFRD, and watching porn.

It could be said that proctologists spend a lot of time watching assholes. We have Norcalboy all to ourselves. Thankee Jesus!

Palpability, if we return briefly to the root, suggests stroking or touching and might suggest that Norcalboy's kinship to porn could well be self generated.
