Just wanted to say Hi, I am going to purchase a nice clean low mileage 2000 vfr 800 in yellow this weekend. Its been owned by a 64 year old for the last 10 years. He purchased the bike from the orig owner with 2400 miles on it. It now has 14,000 miles. He is asking 3900 and the bike is completely stock. Comes with a full set of soft bags and top bag along with a tank bag. I am really excited to ride again after taking a 9 year break. I have owned quite a few bikes so its not my first but the vfr should fit the bill with what I want to do at this point in my life. I have a friend that is a motorcycle police officer and his personal bike is a 2000 vfr also. It will be cool to ride together and learn from a highly trained rider. I have read and been told by my friend about the charging issues. I asked the question to the seller and I am waiting for a reply to see if he has fixed it or had to replace it. If not I will use it as a negotiating tool.
Welcome to the forum. Your friend must just be ecstatic given the opportunity to get of them fugly harleys and ride a good bike.
Nice. Curious, is this the one in Olympia? if so drop me a PM it's where I'm at. Be cool to meet up. Also, welcome to this fun house .
Be careful of RVFR. He will lure you to his home, feed you hot chocolate on a cold windy rainy day then kick you out and send you south for the sunshine.
Awe, there was a yellow one on CL that was in Oly. why the question. Whats the odds, two in the same state maybe even on the same weekend crazy.. Cool enjoy. yes it's worth the trip. And the offer still stands, If you can get away from Randy
Welcome aboard! I'm surprised no one has made mention of it yet, but pics of your bike on your intro post are a requirement. Well at least that's they way most of us see it!
All in due time! Congrats on your new to you ride BTW! It's not like we haven't seen a yellow 5 gen before.
Don't let the regulator scare you off. Most of the issues were on '99 and older bikes. In 2000 Honda upgraded the regulator.
Congrats and welcome. Its only a select few of us that know you've purchased the fastest color VFR eve made. Whether you negotiate or not on the price, you'll probably still want to check the R/R. Mine had been upgraded, but not the proper way (i.e. there were still wires being plugged in). Cut them yellow wires and solder them shits back together.
Well it looks like I will have to wait a little while for this bike. The owner tells me he had a bike lined up to purchase from a friend that had one lined up to purchase from someone else. Well the someone else decided not to sell or something fell through so he isn't selling his bike to the owner of the VFR so he isn't selling to me yet. Said he is pulling the CL add but will give me first shot at it when everything lines up. I am not in a big hurry just because I had rotator cuff surgery 6 weeks ago and wasn't really looking to purchase yet but was going to buy this bike because of the great deal. So I may have to wait a few months but not a big deal to me. When he is ready I will be also.
Still waiting AAAHHHGGGG!!! Sucks as I cant stop thinking about it. I did find another vfr close by that I want to look at to get an idea or something to compare too. Its a 2001 with 25000 miles on it in Red.
Honestly, $3900 for a dead stock 2000 is pretty pricey, even with the soft bags. Prices for a 5th gen in the east US runs around $3100 which can include updated seat, pipe, and helibars. IMO, keep looking. You should find a better deal with some extras if your patient. Good luck! Scott L.
So after the guy backed out of the deal I have been looking at a few other bikes. The vfr that was close buy was a non maintained POS and wasn't worth 1500 bucks IMO and the guy was asking 2400 so I walked away. Then I looked at a 2005 Yamaha fz1 and the seller was the third owner and didn't know shit about bikes. Most likely thrashed it. He did drop it once and it cracked the faring. Didn't even test ride it. Then I looked at a 2006 SV1000 full faring yesterday. I didn't like that bike at all. Within 10 min of riding my hands were starting to go numb. That was a big deal breaker. Tomorrow I am going to look at a 2002 FZ1 that is owned by the original owner with 12000 miles on the clock. All stock except he had some custom seat work done to make it more comfortable. It looks super clean and the owner is in his 60s and owns more than one bike. I cant wait to see it and go for a ride. I did contact the yellow vfr guy and he is still looking for a replacement bike. It is fun looking and riding bikes to test them out. If the bike tomorrow is super clean like he says I will come home with it.
