Help with perf enhancers

    I have a 04 VFR 800 abs and am looking to improve performance. Thinking about the following:
    Air Filter
    Slip on exhaust
    Power Commander

    Does anyone have any experience with these upgrades and what were the products used and what was the outcome...

    I have a 98 and with basically the same mods a lot smoother and more power wheel comes up a lot higher when I get on it hard in 1st gear hasn't been on a dyno but I know it's faster down low now. I have a friend who had an 03 did everything you listed except filter an noticed had the same results as I did. He had Staintunes, and PWCIII which he made a custom map for himself but I believe there is a custom one for your application on the dynojet site. I highly recommend making the mods and stiffen up your suspension if you haven't done so already.

    Hey thanks for the info. I also heard dropping a tooth up front will help with the gearing / power ration befort the vtec kicks in. Any experience in adjusting sprockets???

    Dropping a tooth in the front will make the bike accelerate quicker but it's harder to change the front sprocket I'd leave it stock and go 2 up in the rear. It will definitely be quicker before the VTEC kicks in and after. I'm going up 2 in the rear myself when I change my chain over the winter.

    I thought going up in the rear gave the bike more top end not low end?

    Actually going up in the rear increases the revolution the chain makes to go the same mile as with your stock chain.  Example is divide the front sprocket into the rear (i.e. 15/45 = 3.00 ratio OR 14/45 = 3.21 ration)  Same applies with cars; the higher the ratio the quicker the acceleration.  Top end is the one that suffers but not by much.  I went up 3 teeth on the rear of my Katana 750, 15/48, or 3.2 ratio and it worked out great.

    I recommend going up in the rear also due to the ease of replacement HOWEVER!!! also remember that the chain and sprockets have worn themselves to oneanother.  This means that the chain may wear funny if you do not change front and rear sprockets along with the chain. My2cents.  Hope this helps.
