Ok since I don't have a 4th gen to compare, I'll just ask, does the 4th gen foot pegs fit the 5th gen? These rubber covered pegs are driving me nutz.
Not sure about the 4 Gen fitting on a 5 Gen but there are quite a few footpeg offerings on eBay. My 5 Gen came with an aftermarket set and they seem to work really well for me.
Since I have both a 4th gen and 5th gen in the garage, I took a couple measurements for you. Both have the mounts oriented nearly the same as far as mounting angle is concerned. Both have a space of 3/4" between the two mounting points, and mounting pin diameter is the same (at least visually speaking it is so close I can't see there being a measurable distance) though the pin on the 5th gen appears to be just a hair longer but again, not by much. If there is a main difference it is that the 5th gen foot peg has two mounting arms that pin passes through, whereas the 4th gen only has one. The thickness of the foot peg mounting surface on the 5th gen is two arms approx 3/16" thick whereas the 4th gen peg has a single mounting flange approx 7/16" thick. Since r I have to ride the bike tomorrow I can't take the foot peg off my 5th gen without breaking the cotter pin (don't have a spare one at home small enough to replace it with) but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Here are a few pics of the 5th gen foot peg and one with the 4th gen peg just above it. if I can find a small enough cotter pin at work tomorrow, maybe I can give it a try for you.
That be great. Zoom -zoom. First off thoughts says they should inter change.. Yep there's good ole ebay, but the stock 4th gen pegs worked well for me and looked like they belong as in match the passenger peg. I know, what a small detail. whats weird is and funny how I noticed, when I want to side my foot over or even tweak the position a bit as I ride on the balls of my feet most the time. the soles stick to the rubber on the peg so i actually need to lightly pick my foot up, to do so in that it takes a new thought to make it happen, were before it just happened.
Hey RVFR So I rode the bike in to work this morning and brought the 4th gen foot peg with me and it does indeed fit. There are a couple of things that I should note. The foot peg spring on the 5th gen is slightly thicker, stiffer and larger in coil diameter than the one on the 4th gen. I'm not sure if this makes a huge difference or not but I thought I should mention the difference. In order to install the 4th gen foot peg on my 5th gen I used the 4th gen's spring (the shape of the bent tabs on the 5th gen spring make it impossible to use) but used the 5th gen's mounting pin and cotter pin, as the 5th gen mounting pin is slightly longer. After riding the bike around a bit in town, and the only thing I noticed that bothered me was that I felt a bit more vibration though the left side foot peg (the 4th gen one) versus the factory 5th gen foot peg on the right side. Other than that minor complaint, I can't see why the 4th gen pegs wouldn't work. Here are a few pictures of the 96 VFR foot pegs as installed on the 2000 VFR.
