G'day guys , this is my first post although I have been stalking you all for a couple of years now since I got my 2000 vfr. I've done some basic upgrades from the good advice I've received from this great forum. Musarri pipe (cheap but looks and sounds great ) K&N filter , de snorkeled and the best one was suspension upgrade from MPE suspension (18kg rear spring & revalved 0.9 front springs & revalved ). I'll try to attach photos and someone let me know if it works as I've never done it before. [IMG][IMG]

    Welcome oldmate!

Is that a seal that you sit on? Looks comfortable.

The beauty out there makes me want to save up, take my wife to your island, and ride around for a while. Can I rent a VFR there? Oh well pipe dreams perhaps.

Yeah mines a bit like that too as it lives securely under cover but not fully garaged and the dammed possums and the family cat have left a few scratches here and there

If you ever need help with the vfr I have a a few tools and bits including a set of balancing gauges for starter valves synching

Thanks for the offer . I'm not sure I need syncing atm as it runs great although it is a bit slow to start after sitting all week, always starts 1st go but seems to turn over a couple of times then 1 pot catches then rest follow. I've had the valve clearances done. Is it okay to use a throttle body cleaner to decoke the valves

I haven't used any of the upper cylinder cleaners used on a bike engine but I did used to own a Subaru

They have a product that foams like shaving foam and half of the can sprayed into the inlet manifold whilst the engine is turned off and hot and then allowed to sit for5-10 mins

Then you start the engine (this can take a while ) and continue spraying the remainder of the can into the inlet whilst it is running and then turn the engine off just before the can empties and leave to sit for a further 10 mins

Then start the motor again and go for a ride to purge the cleaner from the system

the cars smoke a white acrid putrid smelling smoke that lasts for maybe a kilometer and then it is all done

This stuff used to be used every 12,000 km's service and it did actually improve the fuel economy but I feel it was more of a shortcoming of the subaru intake manifold design causing the need for this cleaner

Many will tell you that additives are more a snake oil type of thing and to a point I agree and I would be a bit wary using such harsh chemicals in a bike engine

Maybe put a couple of tanks of good clean fuel through it on a long trip giving it a bit of a hard time may clean it out just as good

I have used the Wurth bike fuel system cleaner (super cheap auto's) in my 2004 and that made the idle a bit smoother for a couple of fill ups

Welcome, welcome, welcome to this fun and crazy place, as noted good job on posting photos on your entry into this wild and wacky place. Nice Form, now hang onto your lid, it'll be a wild ride. ;) That being said, I see your vfr has a clear screen? Hmm was hoping it had the dark tinted one, as I'm looking for one of those. I heard they only came on euro spec versions, maybe it's was an option, Hmm??? anyway, Nice bike, love that saddle.

This sounds like a worn battery. What is the battery voltage after a week of no use?
