My bike cranked a little slowly a few times yesterday. It's been normal today. The PO said it was the original battery so that makes it 9 years old. That's impressive. I'm thinking about getting a new one and would like to get the same one for obvious reasons. How long do your batteries last?
My last stock model of Yuasa had lasted me 3.5 years. I ran it completely dead few times by mistake so that did not help. I think 3-4 is average, 5 years you are doing great. My new Yuasa I am able to use my battery tender on so hopefully it will last longer. So far, I am taking better care of it. I'll hang up and listen.
Yah ... I'd say 3-5 years is "average" ... if you bring your battery in for the winter and put it on a trickle charge, it will last longer ... especially factory sealed units.
The original battery in the BMW my VFR replaced lasted 12 years with no trickle charger use. I replaced the original battery in my VFR a couple of months ago, so almost 12 1/2 years, with occasional smart charger use in the last 4 years. The original battery in the Duck only lasted 6 years, also with occasional smart charger use in the last 4 or so. Go figure. All OEM Yuasa batteries BTW.
My scooter battery is 6.5 years old and still passes load test. Put it on the ctek charger every now and then.
Replacements seldom last as long as the original no matter the vehicle or battery brand for some reason. My OEM battery went right near 8 years, the next one went 4 years, this one is right at 3 years so hoping for one more year .....
Inherited a HD Dyna Low Rider that lasted 8+ years. But, it sat unused for at least three of those years only being started up and charged about once per year. So, maybe better make that 5 years of actual use. My son just acquired an '06 VFR 800 in which the previous owner had installed some sort of gel battery from Batteries Plus. I'm thinking he mentioned that he had just replaced earlier this Spring or maybe last year. So, the original must have lasted around 8 or 9 years.
