Hi guys. I'm looking for the earlier Givi PL161 side rack set for a fifth generation VFR. If anyone has one they don't need or would like to sell please let me know.

    Thanks

Is that the setup that doesn't require the topcase rack? If so that's what I wanted, but didn't have enough patience to track one down, opted for the SW-motech's which work great, but have a drawback (can't access seat key slot easily)

Good luck in your search, maybe see you on the roads of wisconsin

The PL161 makes it a little difficult to get to the seat latch too and I found I have to use an extender on my helmet D-ring to get it on the lock.

Good luck with the search, they've been gone from the market for a number of years.

Yeah, the idea is to avoid the top rack. Does anyone know if you can use the currently available Givi siderack WITHOUT the top rack somehow? I'm tempted to just buy the PL257 and make it work somehow. It looks like the PL257 has three mounting points and the FZ257 acts like a stand off or spacer. I'm thinking that one could simply make something to take the place of that end of the hardware.

I think I figured out what's going on. Most of the places that sell the Givi PL257 have a picture of the PL 161 up on their site. But if you dig up a diagram of how the 257 side rack, most of the mounting is done right onto the FZ257 top rack, not the bike itself. At this point the Motech system looks like the best choice if you don't want that top rack.

The 161 uses a stand off/spacer to mount without the tail rack too. It's a simple L-shaped bracket with 4 holes drilled for the bike grab handle mount and the rack mount attachment. Not sure how the 257 mounts but maybe a similar bracket would work if you can fabricate something.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I am lucky enough to have found what I now know (thanks to you guys and this thread) are PL161 Givi racks for my 5th gen.

The guy selling the racks told me they fit his bike without the Givi top rack. I couldn't figure out what was going on when all I could find were PL257 racks for sale.

I now have a question of my own; what Givi panniers for the PL161?

I'm resurrecting this thread because I find that i'm in exactly the same place. I saw an ebay item with a picture of the sr161 and the pl151 side racks but they were selling the pl257 racks. So I thought the pl257 racks would work but now I'm sure they won't
    . Ugh..

Called givi and sent pictures but my work email is down, ugh, ugh...

I just bought a 2000 vfr with what I now know is a givi sv161 top rack. I just ordered the pl257 racks, ugh. Does any one actually have a set of pl161 racks they want to sell? If not what did anyone find about making the pl257 work with the sr161 top rack?

I ended up finding a new 161 rack from a place in New Zealand. I think I got it for $75 but the shipping was about $75 as well. I should have bought every one they had and passed them along to everyone here. Sorry about that guys. Anyway, they came up on the web, search for it and they may come up still.
