'13 VFR1200F engine oil change

    I searched for VFR1200F oil change but didn't find anything. (standard gear shift model)

    I'm looking for a DYI VFR1200 oil change.
    Can't figure out how to remove the lower right side fairing to get to oil filter
    REst seems pretty straight forward
    Planned to use aluminum foil to direct oil filter drips away from pipes

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    It's the 600 mile oil change and I want fresh oil before heading out on a 600 mile mini tour while on my vacation starting tomorrow

    Don't you have an owners manual with that bike seeing as it is so new? You should be able to look that up there. Oil changes are very basic but I can understand not knowing what bolts and clips to remove. I wouldn't worry about keeping drips off the exhaust. A few drips will burn off so fast you won' even know they were there.

    Have you tried searching You tube?

    Here is the video that I used for the fairing removal. Peice of cake. The oil filer is on the side so that makes it even easier than the 800's. The drain bolt is facing forward, not down. And it shoots out pretty far so be prepared and have the drain pan further forward than you would think originally.

    Owners who want the maximum life from their engine pre-fill the oil filter before mounting it up..........despite any small mess !!

    Personally SQ man, I think there is enough residual oil on all your parts to satisfy lubricating need until the second or two passes for the new oil to circulate through your filter. In the extreme sense, if I had a performance bike where my livelihood relied on absolute minimal improvements, or had a bike that I was trying to preserve this machine as pristine forever, that could be good advice. I think I am a little late for that though.

    BUT, if you put a large in line fuel filter in your duramax GMC, pre-fill that filter. Priming a diesel engine sux.

    I love my main, rod, and cam bearings and hate to think they might suffer starvation. If i'm slow and patient i can pour about 2/3 of a quart into the filter. Takes alot of engine pumping for that to fill, all the while running dry bearings. :dread: Bloody 'orrible imo.

    well should I say its a bad idea? My last oil change did well. I bought a mirror so I can not over fill too. I don't worry if I spill some oil too.
    Notice my rear stand with broom handle and train track weight from the local RR-free
    might be a few trains having a rough ride

    Remember that childhood game we used to play Squirrel...TAG YOU'RE IT!

    That practice certainly is not wrong. Matter of fact if you get down to the short curlies, I agree, you are right. I just don't think the results justify the energy to do this. Then again if that's your bag of tea, go for it. I happen to like cutting the lawn and the lines had better be straight or I get upset at myself for being so sloppy.

    your sloppy at riding a vfr too, being the # 1 In drops
    have you ever thought loading a big back pack high up might be a problem?
    A lawn has dips and curves-I can't mow a straight line either, that's not being sloppy just the way the lawn and rocks get in the way.. So at least beat yourself up on the wrong things you are constantly repeating that is insane.:nelson::flypig: I am glad, I am here to point out these
    abnormalities.

    Not quite but close. On average it has been one drop per 20,000 miles so ya, I am up there.

    Absolutely. But packing like that allowed me to run those almost 200,000 miles that opened up the opportunity to drop. Me bad. But I have forgiven myself and am just so over that.

    I have a four day ride coming up with some fine people that you may have a hard time following, keeping up to, or even understanding. What was your oil recipe again? I want to share it with the guys. Maybe we can squeeze 35 MPG out of our spirited ride instead of 34.5 MPG

    tire air pressure and maybe change the plugs and air filter-I run a pipercross -the only one that really works well in a vfr. At least do the air pressure run it at max pressure -should reduce rolling friction a bit. I guess the back pack is the only way to carry that much, but I think you should also lighten the load as much as possible-maybe even ship part of it and pick up along the way.:joker: I do admit, I couldn't do the mileage-after 100 miles I am worn out.:fencing:
    I could not ride a vfr loaded up that way, my car gets 30 mpg going slow, a vfr seems to eat a lot of gas-engine design. I need a power commander help with the MPG's the right map.

    I didn't have owners manual but got it from previous owner.
    THe oil change was a piece of cake !!
    So much easier than my 08 CBR1000RR !!

    Thanks for the help guys !
    She's ready for an extended tour but will have to wait until after the races this weekend

    Great to hear. I figured you were the first owner of tbis seeing as you are doing the 600 mile oil change. I guess thd original owner bought it as a rose a d just looked at it and occassionally sniffed the pipes. Hope you got it for a steal.

    holy sheep shit-600 miles and two owners-kind of the way I would pick up a 2014 model. Well I paid $4500 for my abs 2006 plus $900 shipping it had 4600 miles. I see no point in all in buying new.
