I am looking for a good high milage touring tire for my 99. I don't do too much street carving with my VFR since I have other bikes to do that with. I use mine as my daily freeway commuter and my occasional 2 up wifey transport. Suggestions???
I was huge on the BT020s until I started doing a lot of 2-up work. Now the 20's square off in 4000 miles, I think I'll be able to go 6000 before I cord it. I used to not be able to wear them out at all. I'm looking for a good tire to go 2-up for long stretches of slab without squaring off within 5000 miles, while still remaining sticky enough on the edges, similar to the 20's. Probably wishful thinking though. I put about 7500 miles on the bike in a year now that I have an SO who enjoys riding 2-up.
The Conti Raod Attacks have some extra "meat" in the center for longer life. Their grip is better than the previous Bridgestones that I had on there before. Although I only have about 650 miles on them, I can say that I'm quite pleased with them so far. for the most part you're going to sacrifice traction for longer life, but it also depends on how much traction you're looking for. If you're into track days, then I'd suggest the Pilot Powers, a few of my friends have them, and swear by them, and one does track days on a regular basis. Another option, although slightly costly is to get a second set of wheels, and have sticky tires on those, and long life tires mounted on the bike for normal use. You'll find a tire use survey on the bottom left of the VFRDiscussion.com web page. That survey helped me with making my decision.
