My '06 has an issue with the fuel injector pump. I don't hear the prime when I turn the ignition on but I can crank the engine over. Lights all work fine so my logic tells me there is no power going to the pump or the pump is fried. I did find a bit of melted wire in the starter relay plug next to the battery. I see there was a recall on up to '05 model year. The bike is at my dealer and they are telling me the only way to replace the starter relay is to replace the WHOLE wiring harness which they have quoted me P&L of about a $1000. Is there an aftermarket relay (which also include the main 30A fuse) that I could just splice in myself? Cheers, Kevin
Go and get your bike out of that shop, any clowns telling me that stuff I would not want working on my bike. Once you get it back home we will help you get it sorted
I got the bike back - they patched in a piece of melted wire (not sure where) but the problem is back and I don't want to take it back to the dealer. I noticed my 30 amp fuse block near (but not in ) the starter relay is completely melted (red/white wire). Is this the same standard reg/rec electrical problem that was supposedly recalled on the 2002-2005 recall (dealer says there is no recall on my bike)? I haven't traced the wire the plug yet but that will be my next stop. Ignition will power up but the fuel pump does not prime.
