My 1997 VFR750 came with a modified exhaust and no-name can that makes more racket than I'd like. I've found a complete stock setup from a '91 that I'd buy if it'll fit. Can anyone offer some guidance in that regard? Thanks in advance.
Well, most people do the opposite so they can run the sleeker 4th gen exhaust. But yes, it will bolt up. You MAY have some interference with the center stand, assuming so equipped. Usually the 3rd gen exhaust will clear the optional center stand on a 3rd gen, so don't know about the opposite. Have you explored just replacing the can? Larry
Hi Larry, Thanks for the reply. The system I have appears to be a bit butchered, in that the stock ball-connector was cut off, and the aftermarket can has been fit to a single slip-joint down just ahead and to the left of the rear tire area. I suppose I could adapt a replacement can, but I'd like to return the bike to stock sound levels without much experimentation. I don't have a center stand presently, but would sure like to add one. My understanding from reading is that the 3rd gen came stock with the center stand, and 4th gens depending on country? My hope would be that the 3rd gen system would allow for a stock center stand to be adapted in the future.
OK, you're in UK. In the US, the centerstand was optional on the 3rd gen, and standard on the 4th. On ebay you have exhaust by Black Widow and Delkevic for the 4th gen as well as OEM. I would suggest direct replacement if needed as swapping leads to questions always. If you want to repair the link pipe, go to any muffler and get a section fabbed up and use a slip on can. Just my 2 cents worth. Larry
