Takes practice bud, I find it easier to turn the handle bar towards you, pull with left hand and lift with right with handle.
Took alittle time to get it down since I installed the lust racing triangles.

This is going a bit off topic but what the hell. It is my thread.

Once I got the knack, I find getting the 6th gen onto its center stand quite easy. Left hand on left handlebar. Right hand grabs passenger foot stay and lifts up, pull back while putting all your weight onto the center stands foot thingy. But even so, a "close to being dropped" incident happened while my bike was on its center stand. Parked beside a brand new Ford F250 PU parked at the Canada Border Services crossing near Melita Manitoba. The truck belonged to a border guard who just happened to be making his property checks when I found my bike within a couple inches of scatching his new truck. Needless to say, he was quite happy to lend a hand. And I was quite happy he had that "rural Manitoba" friendly attitude.

    Ultimate Lay Down

Well folks, as you know I was touring the UP in Michigan and Wisconsin this past weekend.

On August 5th (3 days ago) at 4:38PM I was involved with a head on collision with a semi truck on Highway 108 just outside La Crosse, WI.

Anyone know a good lawyer in La Crosse, WI?

EDIT: Alaskan made a very good point, so I've edited this post and removed the photos.

Wow, that generally sucks. I am sure others will post questions and offer opinions and suggestions, but think about this when you are deciding whether and how to respond online - whatever you post about this incident may be discoverable in a legal proceeding. If you hire a lawyer, ask him or her for advice about posting any more pics and commentary online where it's available to the world.

I don't plan on posting anything further - there's no need to.

Right now, I'm just weighing my options.

I'm really glad you're alive Jeff. IMO your story deserves it's own thread.

No doubt the trucker was looking at something other then the road. Hopefully he was drug and alcohol tested on the spot (mandatory) with a class A license.

Yeah, Jeff, I am a lawyer so I tend to be very cautious about that kind of stuff. Maybe overly cautious, but . . .

Once I decide how I'll handle it ... I'll tell the full story in a thread.

In the meantime, I cannot stress how important it is to wear good protective gear and rehearse in your mind what you'd do in a situation like this. It saved my life.

For those wondering, I'm already looking for another VFR to replace my bike with ... with the full support of my wife. :)

This time though, there's no limit on the cost of protective equipment, she's now a full believer.

I recall reading that you were a lawyer, hence why I'm taking your advice. :)

I can't believe you are alive hitting a truck-you must have not taken a direct hit or bounce off somehow.
You might as well as get a 2014 vfr with less than a thousand miles on it after a wantabe rider doesn't want to ride it.

Sorry to hear about you and your bike but glad you are okay and glad you are looking forward to getting back on the road again. Looks like your guardian angel worked overtime. Stay safe.

Sorry to hear about your accident Jeff and I'm glad that you did fare far worse! Your incident is a good example of why you should always ride ATGATT, even though you may be in control of your vehicle, some Bozo in or on his vehicle may not be. No one should expect a vehicle heading toward them in their own lane, but it happens, what you do, how quickly you react and ultimately what you are wearing all adds up in the final equation! Imagine if you had t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops on? What about one of those "salad bowl" helmets?! Once your case comes to a successful ending (crossing fingers), maybe you can post what your gear looked like after the crash in Mofo's ATGATT post. http://vfrworld.com/forums/showthread.php/49072-Adding-fuel-to-the-fire-ATGATT I think that would add some valuable fuel to the fire!

Get well soon and Good Luck!

    Cheers

    Hey Jeff,

So glad you are (relatively) okay and alive to talk about it. Accidents are not fun, and happy you made it through relatively well.

And by the way Randy, I noticed my leaky fork seals before my ride. I nelgected them. Noticed on my ride that brakes felt squishy, but just thought it was me. They dripped onto brake pads/rotors during ride and weren't there when I went into a corner at 7/10th pace. Lawn dart into dirt embankment followed. Bike was totaled. I came through literally without a scratch, unlike Jeff. ATGATT.

So count it as a drop/crash/lawn dart.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread, but just wanted to get the facts out there.

Ya Randy, I don't know why the most useful tips from the wolf are ignored-I have dropped the vfr while learning on the top heavy beast. The best thing to put on is R+G sliders proven by me to work In at least five to 6 drops even at 15 mph and the bike has very small panel damage, busted mirrior, peg feeler nothing that bad all basically repaired. And now I ride like a pro!
