Although I don't commute everyday, every time I do I see stupid drivers and riders alike. I found most drivers are just oblivious to their surroundings and/or preoccupied with everything from phones to conversations with their passengers. Then there are those so worried about being late that they're all over the road trying to get ahead of everyone, albeit one car at a time!

As far as riders, I find that a majority of them are not geared up and ride like they own the road, zig-zagging in and out the lanes and revving their engines thinking this is the best way to get the attention of those fore mentioned distracted drivers. Also, they're typically going way too fast for safe splitting (IMO) and just being rude to other drivers/riders. If I find that there are riders on my tail, I find the first spot to get over and let them by, as they are typically riding a lot faster that I want to so I just let them by. Good thing about this is, they can "part the sea" of cars in front of you giving you a little safer splitting experience, the down side, if they're riding like an asshat, you might be associated with them and possibly be the victim of "revenge" by a disgruntled/upset driver, so be careful who you follow!

I was a squid once more out of poverty then choice; then I hit a deer long sleeve tee's make good bandages but dont protect you from the memory of scrubbing rocks and junk out of your own road rash.

On a lighter note I recommend Silvadene for all burns and road rashes. no infections and no scares.

People are morons. Even normal people. I show up to work and co-workers ask me how I can wear all that gear when it's hot out (by their pathetic Seattle standards 85 degrees is hot). I squint at them and ask them what they see when they imagine hands hitting the road at 65 MPH, or what it feels like to have 4 square feet of road rash, or what they think happens when an extremity like a knee-cap hits pavement at speed with no pads.

People are idiots, bikers are no different. The fatality rate among squids like those in their 1st year of bike ownership is literally orders of magnitude higher than yours.

250 miles a week is easy. Before I retired, it was 500 miles for me. 100 miles round trip a day. There were many who travelled even more. Either that or spend 1.2 million for the "average" house in Vancouver, which is a far cry from what I have now.
