I never have understood why people would knowingly cut down on their headlight power by putting smoked covers on them. Of course if you don't drive at night, not a big deal. But I generally want all the brightness I can get when, very rarely, I travel at night.

The one who gave you the original answer, Randy, is from Canada. He's often associated to useless things, so it comes naturally to him.

Hi KakosLykos and a warm welcome to the forum:welcome:

I am glad to see you got the answer to your question and I hope you are not put off by the last two posts - just a bit of friendly banter which happens quite often on this forum ...:chaingun::vader: :fencing:

Anyway welcome Kakos. It will be great if you can find time to swing by the "Introductions" part of the forum and say Hi to the rest of the folks on here, tell us a bit about yourself and as the folks on here really like photos it is always a good idea to include at least one photo of your VFR.

    Take care ATGATT

Has anyone measured,a light meter the amount of reduction in illumination when these covers are in place? The true measure would be several readings from the same distance in daylight then another at night, then once again initiating high beams. From the pix supplied by the OP the covers are attached by Velcro tabs making it sort of easy to get them puppies on and off the bike when it turns dark. This is one reason I always carry a flashlight with me. Velcro never seems to come with any instructions. Oh well, what else could we expect from a French invention.

...and how bout them smoked turn signal lens and the same deal in tail light and brake light covers?

Might be fun to price oot what it costs to get a rock through a headlamp module on say 2-3 VFRs

For those who get all pissy because everyone else is not fitting their particular "model" of style or propriety, then I suggest at least for protecting that headlamp modue and OH SHIT another shameless plug. Check oot the lens covers in Lexan by Ventura.

We should also quit ragging on Randy because he talks funny.

Any specific references on this one that can be shared? I would question even the legal aspect of having headlights on during daylight hours.

Given the OP is probably somewhere in Greece, not a clue as to their traffic laws. Here for bikes, is the AMA site where shit like this can be looked up concerning bikes and the pertaining laws in each state.

    http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/rights/State-Laws.aspx?stateid=16

The solution of course would be to let Canada be the next State rather than Puerto Rico or Mexico.

Those lens covers used during daylight hours are actually a good idea in Greece, the roads that don't consist of rocks are littered with them, so anything to protect your expensive lamps is a bonus

Contrary to popular belief rocky roads are not limited to ice cream here either. We do have some really nifty roadkill in places. The Armadillo Gyros with a shot of Retsina is recommended. :)

For great protection of those expensive lamp housings ( big pesos) and yet another pitch by BB who tries never to post up crap to strap on anyone's bike, is from Ventura in NZ even though they talk funny down there too. Same chunk of Lexan on me mach 1 91 for aboot 15+ years. I had to change oot the Velcro tabs a time or two that took all of aboot ten minutes .

Y'know that whole suggestion about checking the light reduction measurement is excellent. I think you should give it a shot. Do a thorough job, might take a few weeks but take your time, and when you're finished, but not before, you can come back and post. :potstir:

Glad to see that you are still under the delusion that you are signing the checks and can tell folks what to do. Guess you missed the part aboot me saying take this job and shove it.. IOW, Fuck off Shorty.

We can surmise if taking a few weeks to accomplish a simple measuring task as described, dude, you are in the DNF lane or have no idea how a reflectance spotmeter works.. Take a few weeks and brush up on your physics and be sure and access that Ventura site.

British Columbi Motor Vehicle Act Regulations, Division 4, Sec. 04(2)c) for shields. For motorcycles and daytime lights Same regs and division Section 05(5). Daytime running lights Same regs and divisioin Sec 08. Now that is for BC specifically

In Canada daytime running lights have been required since 1989, Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations (Canada) Schedule IV Part II Standard 108, Sec 44. When this first came out, the big auto companies complained that it would be to costly to re-design their cars and trucks to meet this standard. It was allowed for the headlight to be used to fulfill this purpose. For a few years, the auto industry did use the headlight for this purpose until designers came out with dedicated DRL. These are required on all automobiles sold in Canada but not neccessarily for those that are travelling our roads from out of country. If you were to import a vehicle into Canada, you would have to modify that vehicle to conform. Same as with the auxiliary brake light which I think is mandatory most places now. Cars and trucks in the USA can have DRL but this is not required generally. At least not to my knowledge.

In BC, it has never been illegal to drive with headlights on during daytime hours since at least as early as July 1978, which is when I became involved in the enforcement of BC statutes. Use of headlights during the daytime has been common practice here in Canada since before I was even born. My old man always used his when he was a travelling salesman. A mirrage sets up really easily on the prairies here and a car can completely dissappear in as little as 1/4 mile at times. The headlights will overcome that.

For other jurisdictions, I don't know.

IMHO, they stopped short on the mandatory DRL. They should have included mandatory daytime tail lights as well. Especially here on the west coast. In the rain, especially a grey car, will totally dissappear at freeway speeds due to the spray kicked up on the roads.

Man, you try to get someone off the forum for a while and make everyone happy, and all you get is abuse.

I could do the job in about a half-hour, but when I extrapolated your IQ based on your posts and almost semi-intelligent riposte' to SOW's post, I came up with single digits. Going with that estimation, I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. It could take you longer than I thought, but hey, anything to make the forum a more pleasant environment.

Nice try there shorty.. I know you would like to think you have control over daylight and dark in half hour increments. Looks like your estimates are some off. We have a new category maybe? "The benefit is in the mail".

Dude, A shitload of pesos says the crew would miss me a hell of a lot more than your self-estimate. Do you want to take a stab at my IQ for real? Shit man, if you want accordance coupled with a little butt pirating tossed in for good measure, buy a Harley and do the lifestyle thing.
