Any body use ATF in lieu of brake fluid? I understand that cart racers use it b/c it won't boil, absorb moisture or compress. My Dad uses it in the brakes of his Light Sport aircraft.

Try ATE Super blue or amber brake fluid. excellent fluid and the 2 colors make it easy to know when the system is flushed.

Brake fluid is designed the way it is for a reason. If you want a higher boiling point, go to DOT 5.1

ATF was not designed for brakes ... it can be substituted for certain "hydraulic" fluids, but never for brake fluid.

I was gettin like 15mpg and was freaking out. I was gonna remove the carbs n look for what was going wrong. But Lefty spooked to me and said, lift the rubber under the carbs. So i did. And found the cap for the vacuum lines that once operated the emissions things was all dry n cracked and falling off. I moved over to the other side and found the cap was not even there! Quick run to the auto parts store n now i dont even get the backfire when i cut the throttle.
    Man i was worried.

Been almost a week now, but I installed Jamie Daugherty's fork cartridge and spring kit to go with the shock he built me last month. I can't believe the difference it made in handling, the handling is almost telepathic now, it doesn't dive at all under braking, and overall it feels like a totally new bike. Super easy to install as well and 100% worth the price.

I actually knocked out most of my list for my new bike within the first three months of owning it: exhaust, shock, forks. Still need to do something about the seat, as it's god-awful on long trips, and I'm still trying to figure out an accessory power solution that doesn't leave a rat's nest of wiring coming off my battery. Then, after I get around to removing the PAIR stuff, I'll be done.

Drilled out the head of a seized body panel bolt, and backed the threads out successfully.

Changed the oil and filter ... switched from a dino 10W40 to 15W50 Shell Advanced Ultra 4T synthetic. Found a good price on it.

    Changed the air filter.

I've got replacement bolts for the panels, but I need to find some M5 metric speed nuts (u-nuts / spring nuts .. they go by many names) for the lower tab.

Jeff, are you swapping out the push-pins for more sensible fasteners?

I replaced the push pins on the side battery and rmc covers with ones that have a screw type center (phillips).

The bottom ones on the main body panels were replaced with ones that don't have a center, and fit a little looser making them easy to get in / out without damaging them or the panels.

Today...Just turned over 10K on the odometer, on my 07. I retired in May and 2000 of those miles are since that time. The miles are going to go fast now.

Changed oil and filter, ordered new tires, put a voltmeter in, wired up BatteryTender leads and a socket for Gerbing heated gloves (kind of a must-have for Maine :)

Nice. I hit a milestone myself today. Turned over 25k this morning on my way to work. Bought mine at 9k two years ago so I'm making up for all the riding the previous owners didn't do!
