This bike sat for years. I was told it had a flat spot on a cam lobe and after getting it running I could hear a lot of noise from the front cylinders. When sitting on the bike it's the left upper lobe as shown in the pic. I have a set of good cams. My question is how to get the timing chain off in order to do the cam. Also how would I go about adjusting the valves? Thanks!

not to sound mean, but with questions like that...do you think you should attempt a cam swap. a manual can walk you right through the procedure. valvles are adjusted using feeler gauges and aligment marks

I'm an auto mechanic by trade and have worked on 2 stroke bikes for years. I just downloaded the manual so I should be set. I was mainly asking to see if there are any tricks but I got the head off. I found 2 bad cam lobes and a broken valve. I have 2 complete doner heads that I'll be swapping parts from. I imagine this is like a car and head gaskets aren't reusable. Any other info or things to look for would be great. Thanks

So after pulling the cams I found 2 rockers that are worn bad, 2 bad cam lobes, a broken valve and a broken valve guide. My donor heads both have rusted valves. As of now I'm into the bike for about $200. I see some complete heads on eBay. Is this project worth continuing or should I expect a can of worms?

Just depends on how bad you want it to see the road. 1st gen bikes are notorious for having cam issues, so it may not be long before you experience another failure anyway. There are some here who would disagree.
