I have a problem when I get on it...

Now my problem is very small. When I get on the engine and its racing the speed picks up and it starts to take off. But it seems like an automatic when downshift. It will rev up and then kick in when its ready to. What I was wondering is this normal? It doesn't seem to be a problem but since this is a manual tranny I thought all the power should go to the rear wheel without delay. Is this a sign that my clutch maybe going bad?

Also this may not be related but I feel my engine gripping when I put it into gear even with the clutch in all the way. It lurches forward a bit when I downshift into first. How can I get my clutch to engage all the way? I have tried to bleed it , but maybe I should do it again?

 

Anybody? I am looking into changing the clutch plates but I would like to know if that is the way it should go or if I should just bleed the brakes again?

 

The bike slightly lurching when going into first gear is normal , aspecially when motor/oil is below 160 degrees as normal operating temp is 170-180 degrees F... How many ,miles on your VFR ?

 

16,118. When its on the center stand in first and the clutch is pulled in the tire still spins.

 

So, to be clear, is your clutch slipping?

 

Sounds like the plates aren't disengageing, therefore slip isn't your issue.
It's likely that your clutch master isn't producing enough pressure to release the clutch, you have bubbles, or ther's some blockage in the master or slave. If you're questioning a recent bleed on the clutch, a re-bleed is your cheapest option to start with.

If you're worried about getting bubbles out, do a reverse bleed. I can build you a kit, cheap, that will eliminate bubbles, or work with you to build your own.

 

Normal, due to drag from the oil, even when hot. If you try to stop it with your foot, it shouldn't take much pressure. If it takes a lot then I'd look at the clutch system.
