Crickets is right….. LOL I would have thought somebody would have had something to say about spending $1,200!
I can only speak for myself and I have not used a set of the Megacycle hard welded cam followers. So that would be up to others. I myself have been pretty lucky to not have had any cam failures. As I said I also have done the oil feed to the cyl heads modification. I myself have not spent and probably wouldn’t spend the $1,200 for the hardened followers. The HRC Kitted motor I got doesn’t have them either. I have a couple of complete motors sitting and it is so much cheaper to either swap the motor or change the parts than spend all that money . (For me)
If you spent the money on the followers and never had a problem then you would feel it was expensive but worth it I guess.
Me? I will simply keep checking my bikes upper end. I have other places I can spend $1,200 on the project build. Or buying the pristine all blue 83 750 I just bought (With Kerker slip-ons and a Fox shock) to go with the HRC Project Build! What a deal I got!!

sounds like a lemon like some of the new 1200's-design problem. I would use Castrol rt 10-40 syn and a napa platinum oil filter-would at least speed up the oil flow a bit and can take the heat well. I like the way th 06 800 is set up with a very good oil cooler stock and a decent fan too, but it still runs a big too hot I think, so I mixed in one qt of 10-50-to thicken up the oil a little, but I like the idea of a fan switch to turn on and better fan blades -looking into that too. A new rad cap and fresh anti-freeze is on my list of things to do.

Pics of the newly acquired '83 or it didn't happen! ;-)

$1,200 is a lot to spend, that's why I want to know if it's a good fix. So far my cams are ok....kinda, I do have some very tiny pitting on one lobe. I've been checking it very often and so far it hasn't grown. But I've only put 700 miles on the bike since I've had it, but in those 700 miles so far so good.

But I expect someday to have to do something about it....then again maybe I'll get lucky like carlgustav seems to have been and it will never get worse. My bike only has 11,200 so if it goes 49K without the pitting getting worse I'll be very happy.

$1,200 would be a good chunk to put towards a bran new bike.....hmmm. Then save the VF700 to sit and look pretty.

Ok, Here is a pic of the new to me Blue 83. I will not make you all feel bad and tell you what an amazing great deal I got on it. I have also put a pic of the HRC Project Build that will be with it.

As for the $1,200 I would save your money and just watch the top end. Worry about it if you see a big change. But that is just me.

For now I'm just keeping an eye on the cams. That's the plan, keep a good eye on them and figure out what to do if/when the time comes.

Dan, your 83 looks great, after what I just put into mine, I could have bought another, but it wouldn't be the same old girl. New chain since installed.
