    On a Gen2 VFR,

is the oil level checked with the bike on the side stand or standing straight up?

Do you insert the dipstick all the way in, threaded in, or do you rest it at the top of the threads to get the oil level?

Seems like stupid stuff here I know, but it makes a big difference. Too much oil can be just as bad as too little...

    Thanks...Metz

I'm assuming there is no sight glass on a gen2? All the hondas I've had the right way to do -per owner's manual- was bike upright and the dipstick threaded all the way in.

You are correct, no sight glass.

That is what I am assuming also, but my Yamaha is upright dipstick resting in the hole (not threaded) and my Buell is on the side stand threaded in...

    Thanks...Metz

A bit underfilled is definitely better than overfilled.

Hold bike up straight and rest the dipstick on top of hole, not threaded in.

Level ground...up on the centre stand...take out dip stick and wipe it clean, rest it back in place, then withdraw and check.

Owners/factory manual will state the correct method
