It might be a problem at low fuel levels.

Can you swap in a vaccum fuel pump from another bike? Or even an electric fuel pump from other carburted bikes. Vaccum pumps tend to be more compact and that makes it easy to find a place to fit them

For example 1st gen SV650 has a vaccum powered fuel pump. Those should be easy to find used.

That sounds like a good plan,,would i have to supply a vacuum line somehow,,,now that i have disabled the vacuum diagram that lets fuel flow i suppose i could use that.
Can anyone tell me the reason for that vacuum asst diagram?,,,,my brother and i think its so gas cant flow from tank if there is a line breakage
    Thanks

Just look on ebay there is plenty of small fuel pumps that are pretty cheap

The vacuum line to the petcock is to simply shut the fuel flow when the engine is not running. It's very common across many models.

For a vacuum operated fuel pump you can run a vacuum line from one of the 4 carbs. There should be capped off vacuum fittings on each carb if they are not used for another purpose like for the petcock. You can use any. Personally I'd make the petcock vacuum shut off functional again.

It is a twofold safety reason, in a crash, motor stops so fuel shuts off, the second most important thing is the fuel tank sits above the carbs, if a carb needle doesn't seat properly fuel can flow into a cylinder, you come along hit the start button, fuel ontop of the piston, hydrolocks the motor and bingo, you end up with a bent conrod

It is well accepted that the 500 runs fine without the pump.

    The 750 is hotly debated

I figured as much for the line breakage,,never dawned on me about the other explanation,,looks like i will have to get into the habit of shutting off the fuel at the tank till i can rebuild that section of the petcock,,

    thanks for your help

So somewhat on this topic, I have an 85 tank that I want to fit on a 86 bike. 86 no fuel pump, 85 had a fuel pump soooo different pet cocks. Has anyone fitted a 85 pet cock to a 86 bike. I know the fuel hose on the 86 is bigger than the 85 so thats the only mod I plan on making. Anyone foresee any issues I am going out have?

    No fuel pump VF1000F

Been riding my VF1000F for a while now without fuel pump. Problem, fuel flow stops below 1/2 tank. Solution, leave tap on reserve.

I understand why you would leave the reserve tap on but eventually you will get caught out with half a tank of fuel and no way of getting it out, very frustrating sitting on the side of the road and knowing you can't get to it.

No. What I meant was that it did not have enuf pressure at 1/2 tank. Leaving reserve on keeps the pressure up.

My VTR1000F has no fuel pump and relies totally on gravity. Also has no reserve fuel tap, just a light that comes on when there's not much juice left, usually referred to as The Glowing Yellow Eye of Doom.
