Look for cracks and flaking of the paint. I didn't see any. My frame on my 83 was bent slightly and the paint on the bend points flaked and cracked.

So sorry man, I just sold it a couple days ago on Ebay, you would have gotten a much better price coming from the forums also :(

Also both levers and fluid reservoirs are gone.

    Glad to help!

Also to keep the list running on what's sold in case anyone is looking for other parts, a guy came by today and picked up several things so they are no longer available:

    sub frame
    alternator cover and bolts
    rear brake master cylinder
    shock and shock mounting bolts
    handle bars
    rear rim & sprocket

i do still have a lot of bike left so if you're looking for something let me know.

    Fuse box is gone.

If anyone want a straight frame with a clear title let me know. I will give you a ridiculous deal on it as I really want it out of my garage and no one locally seems to be after it.

Hello how much for the lower right fairing you posted? Also any chance you have the black thing that goes between the right side tank and fairing so you can't see between them?

    Quick question:

What is the engine made out of? Rather than throwing the upper case and headers away I was going to see if I could scrap them for a few bucks. I thought I read aluminum somewhere but I can't find anything.

Block should be aluminum with cast iron liners, heads, side covers, pistons, con rods, aluminum. Crank, gears steel. Scrap dealer should be able to tell you if block is worth anything.

Cool, that's what I thought. Probably won't get much for them, but I drive by a couple scrap yards during the week so I can make an extra pit stop for a few bucks. Anyone want a lower case? It's pristine! Otherwise I'm going to scrap that as well because I've had zero interest in it and it's taking up space.

Wish I needed it; always seems a shame to scrap useful stuff. But what can you do if there's no interest?

If they're anything like the older V4 motors, the top half of the motor and heads are very low purity aluminum. The upper case has cast iron cylinder liners and is worth very little. The heads are also low grade alu, given the bronze valve guides and steel valve seats. My scrapper graded it all as "contaminated aluminum castings", worth something nominal like $0.10/pound. I had stripped one head to see if it was worthwhile but it's too much pain for the gain. The cam covers, side covers and lower case were worth much more, rated as "clean alu castings", something like $0.40/pound.

Wheels are the highest grade of vehicle aluminum IIRC, definitely worth a lot more, like $0.80/pound. Fans, stators and starter motors are also well worth recycling. I was also surprised to learn that brake rotors are worth more than mixed scrap steel; they're very high-grade cast iron and require very little processing.
