+1 to snowbird's comment. tho its not just the yosh that his comment would apply to, its really ANY aftermarket setup. the header pipes pretty much stay in place regardless what you do, as I've only seen ONE company that makes aftermarket header pipes (that being Delkevic Exhaust) and honestly, i dont know how effective theyd be. as for buying an aftermarket setup such as a 4-2-1, all youll get is the 4-2-1 baffle that bolts onto the back of the header pipes, the muffler, and the mounting hardware. one thing i can say about the 4-2-1 systems tho, theyre WELL worth it!

One of my 86s has the stock system, and the other has a pair of supertrapps. From looking at the exhaust on the stock bike, you cut off the stock mufflers (re-using the H pipe setup), and then fit generic supertrapp (now kerker) units onto the stock pipes.

My 86 with supertrapps has a header-back replacement (it's not 4-2-2, its 2x 2-1-1, with no crossover pipe). The 8-spacer setup in the 'trapps is pretty d*mn loud... Although not as loud as my wife's HawkGT with a Muzzy pipe that sorely needs a repacking.

When I got my 87 VFR700F2 The right side was falling off, removed that, then... I said "well Im already running no pipe on one side...."

15 minutes later... I was finished, took it for a ride. Gotta wear Headphones with this setup lol

I took this at about 2:30 am
-I was very gentle with the choke due to the time of day
-my tC is idling in the background

I saw a small increase in power, but I was also running some seafoam through at the same time. I am going to purchase a small slip on to make is less... awesome.

Holy crap l3oycl. Yea, that sounds about right for one of these old bikes with no muffler on it. You ought to hear one with the 4-2-1 and no muffler. I've ridden like that once or twice, and at freeway speeds, you can't even hear yourself think. (though it sounds pretty badass, like a GP bike).

Yeah My buddies said it sounds like a GP bike. Its stupid loud but if you don't like the sound of fossil fueled toys then that sucks for you.

At about 5 grand on the freeway (60mph) you do go slightly deaf.

Here is one of my buddy riding it with just one pipe on it.

Damn, I might have to pull the muffler and go riding around to get a vid of mine like that too. That sounds insane!!!

Are there any downsides to not having any mufflers? Some old sales guy said I will "Fry my valves". To me it sounds like he is an old guy who wants to be seen not heard so he said to put on mufflers lol. however I know that there are Pro's and Con's to any modifications on a bike.

The idle alone is enough to make you want to sit and listen for a minute

And that video was on the way back from the Previous owner's home so I was not purposely letting it run with one muffler on and an open pipe on the other side.

I love this bike! I've had it for a week and 1 day. I am going deaf and I've been through 4 tanks of fuel.

This one sounds awesome! Off a monster 1000 I believe. I shortened it about 4" since I only run the bike at the track. I grafted it onto my lazer system, I just didn't like the weight and look of the big Lazer can and steel mid pipe. I've since painted the little short section black and flipped the clamps around for a cleaner look.
