New to VFR's NOW WITH PICS OF MY BIKE

Well hopefully I came to the correct site. Google vfr and a few sites come up. Anyways I've always been into Hondas. Mainly 70s vintage CB's. As of late I've been looking for a VFR. I found 2 listed locally. One is a red 91 with 57k. Priced around 2250. The other is a 93' with 18k for miles, asking price is around 2500. The white one was down with minor scuffs on the one side. Both bikes run. The red is in better shape but something about the white just pops. Anyways, any insight for what to check out when looking to buy either bike? I read the gearbox goes to poop around 60k but the bike shifts great. I can post pics if you all would like.

    Thanks in advance!

Pic are important, gearboxes don't seem a big issue, no idea about prices over there but seem a little high to me

Is there a trick on posting pics? Do I need a certain amount of posts prior to posting pics?

Use the Icon 3rd from the right, just left of the movies strip. If you hoover your mouse over it, it will say Insert Image. When dialog box pops up, you have a choice of using files on computer or using a URL to a online photo app.

go for the white one, not a terrible price, you have to factor in tyres, battery, brake pads, maybe a r/r. Nuff said. The red one has some mileage, my 91 has almost 80,000 and the gear box is better than the white one that has 18,000. Helps it has a Factory Pro Shift kit on it, debating whether or not to do it on the 93. Those gear boxes go forever just like the entire bike!

Those scratches don't look bad, you know you grinded some chit on these bikes when the lower grinds through. The bodywork is actually genius, because it saves the bike from it-self. My 91 is no stranger to the tarmac but you would never know it.

That white grew on me I gota say, specially in the sun. Cheers and keep us posted

I did read the regulator /rectifiers seem to go bad. Thanks for your insight! Much appreciated. I will definitely keep the site updated.

its a fast check at the batter terminals with a digital multi meter, at 5000 RPM you could get 13.5 to maybe 16 (which seems high to me.) 14 DC seems good. Can check the stator oot put if you got the right mid faring off too, thats a three phase AC voltage my as the regulator is the diode cooker to re-supply the battery with DC.

Well I looked at the 93 white one. POS. Really disappointed to be honest. I was told a scratch on one side... far from it. Bodywork was cracked all over. 20150601_175423.jpg

Gear shift lever on that bikes looks brand new, looks like its not positioned correctly either. I love that side stand fairing! I would offer the doode something for that chit. Anyway, my 93 was all there but every panel was screwed in some way. I can come to terms with "hangable" body work and as long as its not a liability on the road (falling off-killing you or someone else) its ok. They are 20+ year old bikes.

I understand the age of the bike. I've had around 5 1971 750s if not more, many 550s from 75-78. Hence why I love the Hondas. I was bummed because he said only a scratch on one side. But every panel was jacked. Oh well. If I were to get the 91 that is in great shape just high miles what's a fair price in the Midwest? He is asking 2250. Here are a few bikes I've had. They weren't in the condition when I bought them of course

Well I rode the 91 VFR and the tires were shot. Cracks all over the walls. Pretty scary to ride to be honest. Now i have another question. I have found 99' vfr800. To be clear that still has the cam driven gears correct?

Yes, gear driven cams on the '99. The 5th gen is a wonderful bike and one that many consider the pinnacle of VFR's. First year for fuel injection, last generation of GDC's, midsize displacement... it's a helluva bike! Of course the downsides being the soft suspension and weak R/R+wiring.

New michelins made the bike capable of feathering the tyres right to the edge. Wait till I replace the shock :mech: suspension on most bikes can benefit from aftermarket suspenders. Cheers

Awesome info guys. I've been doing lots of reading on these and the 98-01 if i recall correctly has everything. Than the VTEC yrs start in 02??? Anyways I am going to check this one out. I do plan to do road trips with this bike as the CB550 is more for back road twisties. I have read the helibars is the way to go for a more upright ride? Is this correct? Once again thank you all for your insight.
