Today I was riding and saw a Golf Club in the middle of the oncoming lane, in the apex of the turn. I went to slow down to pull over to move the club off the road. However I saw a bike coming, I was afraid he was going to hit the club so I pointed at it while driving past. Luckily he must have just missed it or kicked it because he was able to keep driving. So my question is was is it a good thing for me to point at the club, I felt afterwards it might have been a bad idea to bring attention to the club. I have seen it before were I have pointed out objects on the roads and some people will fixate their eyes on it, which makes them hit it.
You did the right thing. I would appreciate the heads up of a danger on the road, if I fixate on it and hit it then that's my bad not yours.
Lets look at it this way. If you had done nothing, and something bad happened, then how would you feel? You did right. Better to try to do something good and fail, than not to do anything and still fail.
My thought process was that maybe it looked like a wave rather than a point, because I have seen more people were they almost point to the ground as a wave. I do see some gravel in the roads a lot of the time and it would be nice to warn people in the oncoming lane. When people are riding behind me and I see gravel I will put down a foot near the road letting them know which side of the road it is on. However it seems that there really isn't a standard for signs when it comes to riding. For instance the sign for a police car, I see the typical flash of the headlights, or the tap on the helmet, but I have also see were people circle their finger in the air. Which scared me once before, but I found out my friend wanted to just turn around. All in all I would just like to hear your opinions that way in the future I can help out someone or receive the help.
