    Hello all,

I purchased this bike and it was making some knocking type sound in the clutch basket area and would go away when I pulled the clutch in. To make a long story short, I went to go to have coffee the other morning and other than that issue all was fine but when I left 30 minutes later and started my bike up this is the sound that started coming from the same area.

Any ideas on what it could be?. Here is the link to a quick video I posted on youtube. Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

I can only guess it is one of the bolts has backed oot or broken off of the the clutch pressure plate. I would not start it again and would bet money it is going to be very obvious what is wrong when you pop the clutch cover off given the ruckus.

Thank you for the reply, checked that and all appeared normal. Everything is fine motor wise which is why this doesn't make any sense.

Just pulled the started clutch and starter. Starter is pretty much toast which seems odd as I didn't have any starting issues. Reviewed a couple videos on Youtube with starters staying engaged and the sound was almost identical to what I am hearing on my bike so I'm wondering if this is a possibility even though the video I saw was on a car not a motorcycle but the sound was almost bang on.

    Any ideas anyone?.

Thanks again for your help and time.

This is just a wild guess but can you bump start it without the starter fitted and see if the noise has gone?

Hello and thank you for your ideas. It turned out my starter clutch and starter were the cause. I never would have thought such noise was possible from these but after changing both she is running and sounding beautiful again.

Just wanted to share that with you in case somebody else is experiencing the same or similar issue.

    Thanks again everybody, ride safe.

yes a starter clutch can make a hell-a-cious noise. Honda sells the kit piece by piece compared to Kawi that sells the whole starter sprag. Anywho, glad you had a happy ending.
