If you did the 929 shock... want to make the adapter for me?

Just throwing out there....I would pay a fee, we could work something out. I want to do the conversion and could get a 929 shock for ~$50.00 but don't have the time or means to make the adaptor. And I don't have 400+ for the DRm one. :(

You'll still need to revalve & spring it for your weight.....or there's just not much benefit.

+1 to what TNRabbit said. Email Jamie at Daugherty Motorsports and see what he'll charge you to revamp the one you can get for $50. My recollection is that he puts the adapter on the shocks he rebuilds. Or maybe look into getting it done locally. Isn't Race Tech located in Riverside/San Bernardino area? They can also do a rebuild for you I'm sure.

A 929 is much lighter then the VFR, and loads the front tyre a lot more as do most true sports bikes.
The shock as is will be useless on the VFR unless you weigh under 120lbs.
Sorry man, but I don't think you will get any benefit as is.

Disagree. I put the 929 on with stock spring and had good results. Others VFR riders have ridden it and gave the thumbs up. The RIGHT way would certainly be to get the RIGHT spring. But you CAN still get benefit on a budget by starting with the shock. I had significantly improved handling with a 929 shock and the stock spring that came on them.

No, I don't want to build you a bracket.

This was the 3rd gen iteration:

I weigh a Buck fifty so I don't think I would be too far off but yeah Race tech is near by. Might just have the rebuild the original since I don't want to have to deal with the bracket.

You've obviously put a good bit of effort into getting this bracket "right." Any chance you have a drawing or measurements so we could perhaps "duplicate" it ourselves?

This is the mount I made for my 5th gen. Just took a slice off an aluminum bar of the appropriate size. Sorry I don't have the dimensions handy but it's the same width and thickness as the original mount.this allows it to lock into the frame like the original and not rotate when adjusting the spring. The other end is relieved a bit to fit around the mount for the same reason. The length is enough to make the whole shock 5mm longer than the stock vfr one, giving close to an inch of ride height. You will also need to replace the bolt with a longer one. I've had it on my bike for over a year with no problems. The stock shocks have the same spring but the 929 allows more adjustment. Someday I will have it rebuilt for my weight.
The only tools I used were a hacksaw, drill, and some files.

Appreciate the information - something for the relatively near future for my bike - not definite on the shock, but mine ('90) is definitely in need of some updating so thought I'd solicit the input of one who has gone before.

    Thanks!

Sorry, never kept any numbers. On the 5th gen, I cobbled this bracket together and used a stack of washers until I had it where I wanted. Then I machined the adapter.
