    Hi guys,
I have owned my Gen 5 since 2008 and I love it. I have it set up just the way I like it with Heli bars, Sargent seat, and frame sliders... all courtesy of suggestions from guys on this forum. At the end of last season I started experiencing a problem however. It started missing and got progressively worse so that it is now unrideable. I am determined to get to the bottom of it. The bike has 14500 miles, so I changed the plugs, not knowing when they were last changed. They looked good, but I changed them anyway with no result. Where should I look next? The manual gets very deep into the electronics of everything and I wonder if there are not some common areas to look at first, before I get out a multi meter and lose my mind....
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Dave

Will it start at all now or is it just unrideable? Does it miss under load or at idle?

Also check for any stored FI codes. There are some codes that won't trigger the FI light.

How do you check the charging system? Put a volt meter across the battery terminals and see if it increases with rpm?

That is a good starting point also check the stator/rec/reg connector for any signs of getting hot. Also fitting a permanent voltmeter enables you to keep an eye on the charging ALL the time because eventually, not if, it will go bad
