Vf500 engine

Hi all
My bike is a 86 f2
But one of the valves is knackered so taken head off today.
I think my engine is a 85 or 85 due to the timing marks
Is there anyway to tell?
Especially as the valve gaps differ

The 84 and 85 are quite different but the 85 and 86 are the same. If your heads are line bored with the rubber half moons then that's an 85/86 engine. The 84 does not have the half moons.

 

I have the half moons.
But the timing marks are TF and TR which according to the Manuals are 84 85 engines.

 

I think there was some overlap in the model years and confusion arsing from how different markets label the model years. If you have the half moons then this is the later engine and there was only one variant of this later line bored engine. As far as I know there are just two variants of VF500 engine, line bored or not. As for timing marks can't help there. Never use them myself.
