Cleaned the rims, and discovered a brake fluid leak. Might be at the rear proportion valve.

I was in an accident last October, a woman cut right in front of me and down I went. This has been the first opportunity to really work on the bike since it happened.
    • Replaced the broken left mirror.
    • Took off the left faring to see what damage was done, the radiator looked off. It had popped out of the mounts, look like a screw is stripped
    • Replaced the bent shift pedal and put on the new rubber piece.
    • Adjusted the chain, it had been sagging before the accident and I had it on the to do list.

Tried to start, just got a clicking noise. It was running after the accident, my friend road to back to my house from the tow yard. I am thinking it is the battery, I noticed I had disconnected the battery tender and it probably ( hopefully ) just need to be charged up.

Awesome Day in the Saddle. started with a 24 mi stretch of road (HWY) to my buddies house. Buddies VFR needed a A tune up and we made her shorter. Flipped triangles, lowered front forks 10mm, oil/ filter Change Check, time to ride. Back in the Saddle for 94 miles of twisty's and a little scenery on the Colonial Parkway. some good picks as well.. Will add some of course. IMG_1368.JPG IMG_1369.JPG IMG_1376.JPG IMG_1377.JPG

    I made these:

    20150502_225933.jpg
    20150502_225949.jpg

    With this:http://www.ahh.biz/fabric/rubberized/toughtek_narraganset.php.

Two $5.00 samples and a tube of black silicone gasket sealant. Total cost? About $19.00. I found the shape I wanted for the sides of the tank online, blew up the image and traced it onto copy paper. Cut it out and created a pattern. I'm going to add some more material higher on the sides of the tank for cornering grip. For the pad on the back of the tank, I found a design on EBay the had the dimensions and I used the height, and width top and bottom and came up with the design.

If I had something to roll them on to the tank, they probably would be smoother. First attempt tho and they work!

I put the finishing touches on the VFR Thermostat replacment project this morning. I also did a chain PM and adjustment plus I changed the oil. The project was really worth the trouble. On startup it warms quickly to around 175-178. Then the thermostat opens and the temps start to fall bringing it down a bit and then it stays around 174-176. It's just wonderful. I anticipate being able to ride without fixating on the temperature readout. I also serviced the chain and changed the oil.

After I got finished with the VFR I moved the shop around and put the two finished and ready to ride Hondas by the door (for easy access) and moved the Norton into the work bay. If nothing else it needs a battery and a good clean. It really needs new pipes and I need to lace on some better looking wheels. We shall see.

Road all day with friends, mostly beach routes. One of the guys was on a Harley which is why I think we got waves from other Harley riders. lol

Big-jim, it depends on the design. A solid color or a pattern wouldn't be too much, but if it involves a designer's time it can be pricey...maybe as much as paint

Spent half a day Sunday washing and waxing the VFR. There were about 3 dozen pinpoint black spots that wouldn't wash off. A little Meguiars cleaner wax and some rubbing took them right off. I forgot how waxing a white bike can be a challenge, especially when you forget you glasses.

You can safely use lighter fluid to remove tar/grease spots, then the Maguires, less abrasive.

Try claying the bike first to remove spots. But, lighter fluid is a good idea. Just remember, you'll be removing all wax from that area. Tho' that's easily fixed!

I haven't done any claying. Which is more abrasive, clay or cleaner wax?

Started putting all the plumbing back together.
Note to self; put front cylinder drain screws in before adding any coolant to block.

1st - whip off silencer and rear wheel

2nd - pull brake pad pin and wiggle out old pads

3rd - shuffle in fresh ones after a little caliper-piston persuasion

    4th - re-assemble and clear up tools

5th - whilst doing so, catch a glimpse of something that looks very worrying indeed down the left side of the rear cowl...

6th - remove it to reveal this beeeeaaaautiful sight:

    DSC_0340 (2).jpg

7th - place head against wall and flagellate self at length for not knowing better by now than to fail to keep a much closer eye on wiring connections :hangme:

8th - sigh, and get tools back out.

We live and learn - sooner or later!

oil change, new rear tire install and balance using that marc parnes thing.

also installed helibars, pretty easy install other than the damper units. didn't have the benefit of a bench mounted vise. but really only one gave me alot of trouble, other was removed in a matter of minutes.

Put a new battery in and the bike fired right up. Took it for a spin to test it out. Rode well. There was a noise coming from the chain, but a different one then the old one now that it is tighter. Hopefully it is supposed to be there.
