It feel like this is either an electrical connection impacted at temperature or some main controller. I don't even know where to start. Anyone got any ideas?

Start bike up cold: it behaves normally.

Allow bike to warm up to operating temperature
-Neutral indicator light starts to flicker and buzz/crackle and goes off. ( engine cuts out if on side stand)
-Rev counter drops to zero with engine running
-Applying throttle, engine splutters and does not rev smoothly.

    Thanks,
    ~g

Rjgti , thanks for the suggestion, why those?

I just replaced melted connector harness and upgraded some wiring and now the electrical charging system seems strong. The Stator and RR passed all the bench tests and stator passed tests under load @5000rpm. I have a Voltmeter installed on the side of the bike and its showing reasonably consonant charge as the bike heats up.

How many miles on the bike and what is the maintenance record :noidea:
Fuel injectors clean? Coil, spark....Bad fuel....?
I wwould go over all the keys items to narrow down the guess work before digging deep in to the electrical.

How old is the battery? A couple years ago, mine would start and run fine, but when slowing for a stop it would die. Would refire but had to keep throttle to it. A new battery fixed it.

Definitely electrical, I'd suggest maybe a bad ground connection given the neutral/rev counter behaviour. Might pay to go through all the connector blocks and make sure they are cleaned and tight.

Sorry for the late responses. The bike has 45K . The battery is over 2 years old but tested ok . ( i just went through an full RR/Stator/ battery test). The battery could be upgraded but i am not that keen to start upgrading different components.

Cadbury, Where specifically are the connector blocks on a 5th Gen VFR? I will check them,

rjgti : "OK then check coils"
Are coils apt to fail when hot? The bike seems fine when cold.

I'm not sure why any of these would surface as issues when the bike is warmed up. I would expect them to cause the same issues hot or cold, right?

There's no one block I would check, but the wiring harness has multiple connectors that you could pull apart, check they are clean (contact cleaner) and not corroded, then reinstall. Given the symptoms I'd be starting at the front of the bike with the fairing off and checking where the harness connects to the handlebar controls and instruments first.
