I found this forum when looking for info on my motorcycle purchase. I just picked up a 96 VFR 750 a couple days ago. It is my first street bike ever. I rode dirt bikes from age 9 until 13. Then I picked up a pit bike a couple years ago. I know this is a big step up but I'm sure I will be able to manage with having the basic fundamentals of riding. I wasn't even in the market for a bike when I came across this bike but it was such a good deal that I couldn't pass it up. I had no idea the cult following this bike attracts. So it appears that this year bike is ultra reliable except for the R/R issue. I bought this bike with 18,000 miles on it. It didn't have a battery because the PO said it died and he scrapped it for a few bucks. However after reading so many posts here, it probably wasn't because of the battery, but rather the charging system. We were able to hook up jumper cables from my truck to the bike and start it up after several attempts. The motor sounds awesome. The clutch lever was broken in half so that needs to be replaced. We put it up on the center stand to try to run it in gear to test it out but the clutch lever had little to no resistance and would not put the bike in gear without shutting off. So that's the first issue I need to tackle before I can ride it. Hopefully I can find a few of you guys in my area so we can ride together. I look forward to all the great info to be learned from this forum.
