Check the valve clearances again. They can be tricky to get right. You definitely don't want to be riding it if they are badly out. It's a pain getting to them but the first time I did mine I did them wrong and the bike was noisy.

They are tricky. It takes a few times to get a feel for the right amount of drag on the gages when they have to make that small bend to get to the tappet. Plus if the tappets and lock nut threads are worn, it is hard to maintain the right setting when you go to tighten the lock nut.

    Go through it again.

BTW... how did you get the broken valve cover bolt out?

Tried and failed with a screw extractor, then got a brilliant udea to grab a flat head, hit it with a hammer, made a slot, and just turned. ....so stupid that it actually worked!!! Went to the dealership, they want $125 to just do the front ones, does that seem reasonable?

I can't see your video, but does anyone think it could be a bad rod bearing knocking ??

The dealer won't do it better than you if you take your time. Save your money and do it yourself.

Going to tear into it again when I get a free day I suppose. Went for a 100 mile ride and she was PERFECT all day. full power, no stalls, no hesitation, nothing. just happy tappiness.

Done!!!!! She's MUCH Quieter now. Thank you for all of your help guys! I was told the horror stories of going too tight, so I opted for a bit looser than tolerances called for, but just by one step up in the feeler gauges. I don't want my ol' girl to melt a valve!

Good work and good to hear that there wasn't a bigger problem with it.
