On my last trip through Pennsylvania, we ran into some bikers who were telling us that there's some great roads, either in West Virginia or in Virginia, that can be accessed from one main spot. In other words, we could stay at one hotel, and pick several great roads from that spot over several days. I've since forgotten the details. Anyone happen to know what location this would be? Planning the spring trip....

There are some FANTASTIC roads south of Charlottesville in Virginia and some great roads alongthe Eastern border between Virginia and West Virginia all the way down to Tennessee. Roanoke, VA, would be an excellent central location, as would many others. 33 from Harrisonburg west into WV then down & back via 250 is an awesome loop. There are any number of routes across the mountain range running along the border between the states.

Wow, thanks TNRabbitt. That's probably why I forgot - it looks like there is good roads in both states. I think the challenge might be finding a good interstate route from Ontario for getting down there. One that's not too busy, and also fairly direct.

Maps are a great source for finding Interstates. Hope this helps. Getting out of Canada would probably require finding a Canadian map. I bet Randy could help.

I believe Americans know how to draw other countries, along with roads and rivers, Badbilly, so I suspect there's a map out there with both countries on it. Did you take Social Studies in public school? The world doesn't end at the 49th parallel, last time I checked.

Yes we do. Some of the old stuff has been revised of late because of satellite imagery. We probably threw y'all a few cartographic crumbs along the way.

Yes again, I taught premium geography in middle school.

Following the 49th parallel a few klicks offshore to both the East and West could be the end of the world is ya couldn't walk on water. This is a tough act to follow. Pretty safe right now on the Great Lakes.
