    Hi All,

So, this is my second time posting. The first time you guys were awesome and helped me solve my motorbike issues; let's hope you can help me again.

My wife rides a 1984 V30 Magna (I ride a 1986 VF500 Interceptor), and I do most of the work on it. Currently, we're living in San Antonio, TX. I only point out our location because the winters in south-central Texas are mild, and never really drop below 30. That being said, I run the habit -- coming from Ohio -- to put our bikes' batteries on float chargers during the winter. I think it's a good habit to have. My issue though is that when I took the battery to my wife's bike off of the float charger and into her bike, and then proceeded to start the bike, once I hit the ignition switch the battery was killed. So, I jump started it; it kicked on but the RPMs fluttered in a very inconsistent fashion between the 5,000-7000rpm range. I cut the bike off and set the battery to the float charger for another week (I got busy with life during that week). After that week I took the battery off of the float charger and back into the bike, and the same thing happened. Only this time, after I jump started the bike it ran perfectly well. After about running it for four minutes -- to get the fuel flowing through it -- it started to flutter between the RPM range I mentioned earlier. I should also mention that prior to these two tests I drained (as habit in regards to long periods between start-ups) the carbs, hoping to eliminate any moisture build-up that might have accumulated during south-central Texas' mild winters. Today, I went to Advance Auto to test the battery and the attendant told me the battery was working fine. It's not even a year old DieHard battery.

So, my question is -- keeping in mind that I am not a mechanic, but I try to fix my own mechanisms: is this an electrical issue or what?

Many thanks in advance for any insight and advice offered.

    Best,
    Joe

I don't have a dmm, but I can try and access one, either from Harbor Freight or a neighbor. What do you have in mind?

My experience with mechanical objects is limited, and even more so with electrical components. So, I am going to be honest, my lack of knowledge and experience makes what you said a bit confusing. Which part/portion of the image below are discussing?
