The vfrness is right as rain. The picture was of the stator connector. The other harness doesn't even have discoloration.

why are you oppesed to soldering the stator wires right to the r/r. it is the best fix

I'm not really. I haven't soldered in ages though. I usually use but end splicers and heat shrink.

never use those, unless they are epoxy sealable as in for underwater use. they are shit

So basically cut the vfrness at the harness and cut the stator cable at the harness and solder together. Then wrap with what?

Cut the wires, slip on a piece of heatshrink tube of the right size, solder the wires, slip the heatshrink over the join, heat the heatshrink with a match, then move to the next wire If you are not sure how to solder them get a couple of bits of scrap wire and practice on them first till you master it. All I do is strip a few mm of the insulation back, get some solder to stick on the wire , usually with a blob hanging, do both wires the same, then bring them together and touch them with the iron and they will melt together into a good bond, then slip the heatshrink over the join. Old wires can be a bit of a problem if they have oxidized or been hot, clean the wire with some steel wool and you will get a good bond

Ok cool. Wonder what it is about the regular harnesses that cause problems? Too many volts?

A lot of times a low or bad battery will put a big draw on the RR which draws from the stator/ Then the wire will get warm +. A lot of people don't keep their batteries up to full charge so the RR has work doing it. I have a write up on it some place.

Problem is they are a push together fitting relying on the tension in the connector to make a perfect connection, not perfect so the connector start to arc to keep the connection, this creates heat that makes the connection worse so it arcs a bit more till it starts to melt the connector and once the wires touch each other it is all over, damage is done. Soldered wires equals no point for the wires to arc so they don't get hot at that point. Think about it the wires don't melt in the middle, only at the connectors which proves the wire size is able to carry the load

Noted. Appreciate the responses. I will order the new stator soon and solder the wires. While I have everyone's attention, when I put the volt meter on, should I wire it just to the positive and negative battery terminals? Where should I be metering the voltage....

Voltmeter can be fitted to any ignition on wire in the system anywhere, it is just registering voltage in the system, not any flow of current. You can wire it to either side of the battery if you wish, but not important. Best to fit the meter up on the front somewhere so it is visible easily while riding
