Bike sat 3 weeks. Wouldn't start. Charged battery. Still no start.

Took it out of neutral and back in and it fired right up. Is it the switch?

Maybe related, I've been getting a dim but visible neutral light in 2nd. What's that about?

Do those bikes have to be in Neutral to start? I assumed that they didn't, being older.

Neutral switches were fitted way before they ever drempt up the VF's. Once they started fitting electric starts they needed a neutral switch, bike on the sidestand, hit start switch with it in gear, bike on the ground.

It could be the safety switch on the clutch lever too. Might not be making up all the time. Something to check anyway.

No clue on the neutral light glowing in second gear though. I've never really looked at what operates the neutral switch.

You have a diode too, at least my gen three bikes do, its a directional one at that. So, you have the Neutral switch, the clutch switch and the diode (black square thing) somewhere on your harness. Could get the manual oot and trouble shoot these items.

Check for possible rodent damage on the wires. Tis the season when we discover such stuff after months of storage.

Simple test is put it on the center stand, pull the wire off the neutral switch and earth it out and see if it starts

Like I said, the bike starts now. Hard to test unless it gives up the ghost.

Still wondering about neutral light in 2nd.

My guess it is more like a something not quite right in the selector but a dim light is more like it is getting a feedback from somewhere, but it is obviously not earthing the switch out via the selector otherwise the light would be fully bright. Very hard to trace this one, pretty sure it must be a feedback but I can't see how it can be triggered by second gear. Think you will just have to live with it

I can do that. I'll just think of it as my 2nd gear indicator.
