I joined this forum because I saw some useful information from it as I was searching the www. As an older rider, I also ride an older bike, a VF45 1988 Magna. It is true that I have a second bike also, and one small bike for local errands. I hope to participate here and would like to contribute with what I can. No expert repairman I have been through some stuff in the past. Right now I am fighting a few electrical problems in my bike. As I read about the various tests and procedures in the repair manual I found myself getting more interested in this so I decided to apply myself to being able to measure basic circuits and etc at least. The article that first got me interested here was the thread about the one-way or starter clutch of the Magna VF45, a very good thread with photos and information and easy to understand. This is one smart poster who did that, IMO. Well, I look forward to being here on and off, thank you all.
Hello hondaman. I got interested in VFR's after I had a 2001 magna. Got it with 9K miles and sold it with 38K for just a little more than what I bought it for. No one is going to believe you have a VFR until you post photos. Welcome.
Well, here is a photo of my 1988 VF 45 Super Magna, right now the bike is undergoing some repairs as I have had problems with the clutch and the electrical system. Change the CID and the regulator-rectifier as well as cleaning the alternator. The bike has had long standing problems with the one-way starter clutch but hopefully that is going to be sorted out soon. I am told it will be ready tomorrow from the mechanic's garage. Not that I don't want to repair it myself, it's more that I don't have the right place to do any repairs but probably enough tools. Spares can be a pain, but with patience most things can be solved.
More photos. I am still experimenting with the sizes. This is better. The bike is right outside the mechanic's garage, taken last Monday. I am not sure how to post photos to the member's galleries, will look into that.
Welcome. There is also a Magna form http://v4hondabbs.com/ It's basically the older ones. A few there have the newer like yours.
Thank you for that information. Maintaining this bike takes some work and worry at times but it's a nice hobby.
Hi again. This forum is great but I feel I would also like to be a member of the one you mention above since it seems to have a focus on older Honda fours such as mine. However, there is a snag. I have been trying for two days to register with them but no luck. I get a message that I am not allowed to register on their forum for some reason. Can't understand that at all since they don't even know me, and also I have no negative history with any other motorcycle forum. They don't even give you the option of contacting admin through an e-mail in order to get help.
